Red or white, what's your style?

The difference types of wine! great resource.

Sommelier I am not, but I do know what I like the taste of (and what I want to pour down the sink drain). And this has changed over the years. I used to be 100% chardonnay -- ew, I don't like it these days. But hook me up with a sauvignon blanc -- and if you really love me, from New Zealand -- and I am a happy girl.

And I do love a red too! I used to be strictly cabernet but now I'll enjoy pretty much any red you put in front of me, as long as it's not jammy-sweet.

Pair these wines and cheeses together.h

The Basic Wine Guide to Wine Glasses, Wine with Food, and Tasting Tips for each type - LOVE this chart so fun

Two of my favorite sauvignon blancs now are Nobilo and Monkey Bay. They will not break the bank at $8-12 but they are quite tasty, in my opinion.

So here are some questions for you:

+ Red, white, or equal opportunity sipper?
+ What is your favorite economical wine - $12 or less in price?
+ If you want to share ... how many nights a week do you like to enjoy a glass?

  7. I tend to lean toward sweet and cold, so I LOVE a good riesling! But I've also recently fallen for Apothic Red. I love it a room temperature even!

  8. I like many varieties of red and white but Sav Blanc is my favorite too! My go to is Spy Valley. It's from NZ and the vineyard focuses on sustainable growing and environmentally responsible practices. So really, I'm being a good eco-citizen when I buy a bottle. My favorite winder under $12 is vinho verde. Delicious and bubbly. I usually Nobilus which runs about $8 but almost all vinho verde is affordable because it's a young grape. I probably have about a glass a week right now because I have a little baby and find myself drinking less often. I'm sure I'll get back to my 3-4 glasses a week habit eventually.

  9. Love this!! I'm a total Sav. Blanc girl too... Monkey Bay is a fav, as well as Oyster Bay. For reds its Malbec all the way... Alamos or Don Miguel Gascon are great and around $12. I'm a typically glass a night gal... but since I'm 18 weeks pregnant, it's been a while. Looking forward to a glass come June! Cheers!!

  10. We share the same white tastes -NZ SBs are my jam! I keep Nobilo or Oyster Bay in heavy rotation as my 'house wine'. I like a Cab, PN or Malbec from time to time, esp in the cold! And Greyere and Mozz are two of my fave cheeses, the pairing is dead on!

  11. I'm an equal opportunity wine drinker (when not preggo!). My absolute favorite is the sparkling wine LaMarca Prosecco (around $14), but my fave economic choice is Chateau St Michele Riesling. YUM! I miss wine!

  12. Ummmmm....we are the same person.
I'm ALL ABOUT Sauvignon Blancs from Marlborough, New Zealand.
Nobilo is also one of my faves!
I also love a good, crisp vinho verde. My new favorite - with a super great price - is Orlana. You can buy it at Whole Foods. I just stocked up on 12 bottles when they were having their 20% off sale. (Imagine that - a pregnant lady with 12 bottles of wine in her cart.....)
A good red is Smoking Loon cabernet sauvignon. Not pricy AT ALL.
10 weeks (or less) til baby boy arrives. And then it's back on the wine wagon!

  14. What a great post!!! I love wine! My favorite recently has been the Cocobon red blend that you can pick up at Trader Joe's for $6.99!

I also really like Apothic Red which usually runs around 10.

  15. I'm a Trader Joe's wine fan! Lots of great choices and can't beat the price point. My favorite variety is vinho verde. I also enjoy a good NZ sauvignon blanc - Oyster Bay and Cupcake are my typical choices. I'm branching out more into reds (especially in winter) and have found I enjoy Shiraz most, but had an amazing Haut Medoc recently.

  16. Great post! I do enjoy the Nobilo Sav Blanc. My favorite is Chardonnay. Less expensive options I enjoy are Bogle, Clos du Bois, and Cupcake. Cheers!

  17. I would say my favorite is Sauvignon blanc and I love Sea Glass but in the winter I love a Cabernet. Josh and Avalon are my favorites Cabs right now.

  18. oh I love Nobilo Sauv! I truly hate chardonnay -- my philosophy is if I'm going to ingest something buttery-tasting, it may as well be butter.

  19. My all time favorite Sauvignon Blanc is Spy Valley. I'm sure you've had it. If not, you have to try it. Happy New Year!

  20. I'm definitely a wine drinker- you've gotta be to hang with the gals in my fam- and share my love for red and white equally. (although to be honest, more often than not it's red, esp if the hubs is joining me) My favorite Sauv Blancs are Oyster Bay and Matua Valley. (I was turned off from chardonnay for a bit myself but have gotten back on it- love Columbia Crest chard!)

  21. I love a good Cabernet Sav.! For sure Chardonnay is my new cooking wine, it is too oaky for me, but contributes wonderfully to our culinary senses. It is great for a reduced guilt Shrimp Scamp! If I am in social setting I LOVE rieslings. They are a good "drinking" wine. I have a glass or two every night to support healthy digestion and maintain a tolerable level of stress. My mother calls it self-medicating.
