My February Health Goals (Just Two ... Hold Me Accountable!)

February, a short month! And hopefully a month to achieve two new health goals that I'm setting for the next few weeks.

First Goal:
Start each morning with a mug of hot lemon water.

Some mornings I just want a cup of coffee so badly. Or my bowl of cereal. But since the start of this month, I've made myself finish one mug of hot lemon water before anything else.

In order to make this feasible (our workday mornings are a little hectic), preparation is key. I bought some large organic lemons and quartered them and stuck them in a Ziploc. That way, all I have to do is squeeze a cut lemon wedge in a mug and stick it under our Keurig with no coffee pod inside. Hot lemon water in about fifteen seconds.

The below graphic gives some great reasons for starting your day with lemon water; the biggest draws for me are the boosted immune system, the healthier and brighter skin, and the improved digestion.

Second Goal:
10,000 steps on my pedometer at least twice a week.

I've really enjoyed my Fitbit Flex and the awareness that it brings to me about my daily activity level (ahem, or lack thereof). Most days, I'm only getting 3000-6000 steps in. I'm vowing for February to meet the 10,000 step goal at least two times each week. I know this is not a lot, but I want to start with a goal that is a good balance of achievable yet challenging.

I'd like to participate in the "Goal Day" Fitbit Challenge tomorrow. In this challenge, you aim to get 10,000 steps along with all of the other participants in the challenge. This is all about reaching your own personal step goal of 10,000 amongst friends -- not really beating each other in overall steps like the Daily Showdown challenge. We can have up to 10 participants ... if you have a Fitbit and would like to join me in the challenge tomorrow -- Friday -- please leave a comment here with your email address (or FitBit username if we are already friends). Let's do this!

I'm putting these goals out there in an effort to hold myself accountable. I'll report back with how I do.

What are one or two goals you'd like to work on this month?
