My Thursday Confessions

I was so happy to see that my sweet blog friend Jess from The Newly started this new link-up for Thursdays! I always love reading confessions (the really good, honest ones) so here's what I'm 'fessing up to today.

// 1 // I am irresponsible when it comes to gassing up my car. Driving around uber-pregnant with a toddler, in the WINTER, this is a bad life decision. If it's cold or rainy outside, I will skip fueling up and let it get down to 0 miles left. I then reset the trip odometer so I know how many miles I've gone past 0 to try to ensure I don't run out of gas. Yesterday I was almost to 20 miles past that point when I filled the tank. For those of you who never let your car get down to this 0 miles left mark, and for my mom, I know you are horrified right now. And I should be, too!

// 2 // On October 1 last year, I posted about starting to read The Book Thief (here). I started it mid-October. I am, embarrassingly, still reading it four months later, and less than midway through. I used to be a really fast reader and would totally lose myself in books. I miss those days, I miss that free time.

// 3 // Now that Camille isn't taking a morning nap any more, about once a week I legitimately can't find or make the time to take a shower. I use dry shampoo and put on lots of eye makeup so my husband won't know that I didn't shower, for fear that he'll think I'm gross.

// 4 // Turning the former office/guest room into the new baby's nursery (and therefore, having to empty that closet) has made me realize that I keep way too many insignificant things. They are just THINGS. But I have a hard time throwing something away that is not broken or 100% useless. I have also heard people featured on Hoarders express the same sentiment. Anyone have a spare copy of this organizational book you want to loan me? I'll read it and return it to you ... by November or so.

+++++

Alright, I'm going to stop at four confessions. Please don't think I'm a loony, irresponsible, unclean person. Or maybe you do, but that might make you relate to me a smidge more (wink) :)

Hit me up with your confessions in the comments! I love hearing your secrets!

  1. Number 4 is the story of my life - I'm moving in eight months and I know I need to start getting rid of all the "stuff" I have...but it's hard!

  2. We downsized our house and the amount of stuff we tossed or donated was unreal. And we still have junk everywhere! Definitely something I am trying to work on, so you are not alone!!

  3. I hate getting gas for my car! It annoys me and I always ignore my car warnings for 'fuel level low'. Sometimes when my fiance is feeling sweet he'll randomly fill up and each week I secretly hope he does it so I won't have to.

  4. you need to move up to new england -- gas stations are full service!!

  5. I don't read as many hard copy books post baby. It's so much easier for me to squeeze in a chapter on my phone here or there! I checked out The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up as an ebook through my local library; they had several copies!

Oh, and my inability to put gas in the car before 0 miles to empty (and it seems my husband is always in the car when it dings 0 miles) and remembering to check the mail are the two recurring trivial spats in my marriage.

  6. Totally feeling you on the dry shampoo. Day 1 my hair is nice and clean and I wear it down. Day 2 I add a little dry shampoo and wear it half-up. Day 3 it's a dry shampoo bath and a sock bun. Day 4 it's just straight embarrassing and my husband is like "when's the last time you washed your hair?" woops!

  7. I am so bad about the first one! If it is rainy or cold or late at night, I'm not stopping for gas. I've never gone past 0 though...

  8. My dad would kill me for the gas thing. Growing up, he wouldn't let me get below 1/4 of a tank because you never know if you would get stuck in a snow storm or what. But now, I let it get down to about 30 miles left. Sometimes a bit less. And I still need to invest in dry shampoo. I am just afraid I will use it too much and now shower enough.

  9. The gas thing---NEVER!! I'm too much of a worrier! When it gets below 20 miles I freak out and immediately find the closest gas station! too funny!

  10. I started Book Thief forever ago and gave up too (insert ashamed face emoji here hah), and girl I hear you about the room clean out. Cleaning out my guest room- my LAST remaining storage space- was eye opening to me as well about how much stuff I had that I didn't really need to keep. I got so good at parting with things when I had a clear mindset that I really didn't have anywhere to keep random stuff anymore!

  11. My biggest confession...I HATE housework, and will do most anything to avoid it until even I can't stand it any more.

  12. #1...all the time. It's surprising that my fuel pump actually hasn't given out because it has gone from "0" to "---" which pretty much means "girl you better get some gas" haha!! I can't give away things that my mom has given me. I am still holding on to a cashmere sweater she gave me in college that is bubble gum pink and totally not my style anymore, but "its cashmere" and "my mom gave it to me". Pass that book on to me in November ;)

  14. I hate getting gas! I do a link up on Wednesdays called Confessions - I used to do it a few years ago and just started. Would love if you joined in next Wednesday if you want to switch up your days!

  15. What ended up being your fav dry shampoo?

  16. I do the same thing with my car! I HATE getting gas with a passion. My husband usually ends up putting gas in it on the weekends or will randomly take my car to work so he can fill it up because he know I basically refuse haha especially when its cold and gross out!

  17. Laughed out loud at your endnote disclaimer. Definitely just relate to you, no judgement here!!! 😂😂😂

  18. Ugh, I keep way too much stuff that I don't need to as well. I'm actually about halfway through that book and I've started cleaning out and decluttering, and dang, it feels good!

  19. I think I could also be a hoarder. We recently switched the guest room/office into my old craft room and now have a separate guest room and combined the craft room and office (which makes like 10000x more sense) and I have SO. MUCH. STUFF. Goodness I really need to just throw everything away!

  20. I feel you on #4! It's a daily struggle for me to try to reason with myself to get rid of items instead of keeping things I know that I don't need. I cleaned out a room/closet for my baby due in April and that booked really helped me along the way!

  21. I am an every-other-day showerer for the most part. I tell myself it's actually better for my skin and hair (especially in the winter when it's so dry!).

#1 is the story of my life. I actually don't feel like I'm making the most of my gas unless the gage hits 0. Drives my husband INSANE.

  22. oh girl, the shower thing? yeah, that's me all the time. It sounds gross, but I wash my hair 3 times a week. That's it. Other than that, I just don't have time for a full on shower. I rinse myself off on those days, do a cute half up do and call it good. It's part of mommyhood I think. There will be a day where I'll be able to shower everyday but today is not that day.

  23. Love! It is hard to shower with a little one! I actually envy how my husband gets to jump in the shower every morning like it is nothing, while I feed our baby. I shower at night because otherwise it would never happen! Kudos to you for putting makeup on; I have pretty much stopped doing that entirely!

  24. This is great! I used to be crazy about my car, but I really let it go. Then I HAD to fill it up when it was one of the coldest days we had this winter. Oops! I bought that organizational book at Christmas...and have yet to read it!

  25. I am terrible about letting my gas tank get super low, too. I (knock on wood) haven't run out yet, though, haha!

And I would not feel gross about not showering! I don't even have a child as an excuse and skip a shower at least once a week!

  26. I'm the total opposite when it comes to getting gas, but only if other people are driving! We're talking borderline panic attacks when my husband won't fill up when the needle hits the E.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i want to know how you pull off the no-shower look for that long... i guess blonde hair makes it way more tricky???!?!? i have dry shampoos that i love, but after 2 days i am looking ROUGH

  28. I'm constantly challenging the gas gauge on my car - my worst (best?) so far is 32 miles past zero! Also, I borrowed Marie Kondo's book from the library and found it to be so motivational for me that I ended up buying it for my kindle so I could skim through it any time I wanted. I've already decluttered so much - highly recommend it!

  29. Girl, #3. Yes, yes, yes. I feel like I could have written that confession myself. Sometimes it's hard to always find the grooming time we had before kids, right??? Thank God for dry shampoo and good makeup!;) Thank you for linking up today!:)

  30. I definitely have to have a purge session asap. I feel your pain with the difficulty of throwing some things out!

    ReplyDelete
  31. #3 is the truth! Taking a shower, drying my hair, and getting dressed is like a three hour long process when kids are present!
