One Is Silver And The Other Gold

When I think about my girlfriends, I just feel very blessed.  In my life, I've truly made some fantastic friends.

As a little girl, my mom placed a lot of emphasis on the importance of being a good friend.  Every first day of school, I would come downstairs to see a neatly-written note wishing me a great first day of school and saying that she knew I would make new friends.

On a business trip this week, I had the opportunity to get together with the oh-so-sweet BLC from The Company She Keeps.  We first met this past March at this blogger brunch and I knew I wanted to get to know her a little more.  Over the most delicious Thai food Wednesday night, we discussed blogs (of course!), married life, careers, college memories, and family.  And if that wasn't already just the perfect time, she then said, "So, are you up for another cocktail?"  YES!  So we headed to a nearby bar, nabbed a patio seat, and proceeded to have a few more libations before calling it a night.

Prosecco for BLC, malbec for me, and good times had by both!

We will definitely have to get together again soon.  Just as you may have assumed from her blog, she is just as positive and thoughtful and optimistic as you would imagine.

Today is a special day for me because it is the birthday of not just one, but TWO of my very best girlfriends.  I always knew we'd hit it off because we have a special birthday connection.  It may sound silly, but I always thought that it was so romantic that my paternal grandparent's birthdays were March 3 and June 6 -- 3/3 and 6/6.  Well, my birthday is 1/1, and two of my very best tried-and-true friends have birthdays on 9/9.  Coincidence?  Maybe not.

Kerry is a true partner in crime, and we hit it off before beginning as freshmen at college.  Our alma mater, Furman University, does a summer trip for all incoming freshmen where you get to stay in the dorms, meet other soon-to-be freshmen, and go on a white water rafting trip.  Kerry and I were the only two that showed up fashionably late to registration for this trip.  She said she took one look at my cutoff jean shorts and Bebe logo shirt and knew that we would be friends.  After that trip, we were randomly placed together as suitemates on our freshman hall (again ... coincidence?).  We both joined the same sorority and have been inseparable ever since we first met.  Even though we don't live in the same city anymore, we get to see each other quite often.

Kerry and I all bundled up and ready for New Years Eve in Times Square
My other 9/9 girlfriend is Mary Hays, and she and I have been best friends since middle school.  Yes, middle school, people!  Seventh grade to be exact.  Braces, bangs, eyeglasses, and awkward stages galore.  I don't get to see MH as often now because she is making her dream come true by serving in the US Peace Corps in Botswana.  I am so incredibly proud of all that she is accomplishing.

So happy birthday to two of the best women I know.  I love you!

You may have caught my tweet yesterday about my new Anthro purchase ... the Quilted Pastiche Maxi.  I love it!  It was on sale and I just couldn't resist.  I've been selling a lot of old clothes recently at a consignment store, so I feel like I am making room for new purchases -- and the money I've earned from the sales somewhat helps to justify the new clothes too.  Right?!?!

Isn't it dreamy?!  And it's made of silk, so it hangs just perfectly.  Now I'm just trying to figure out what kind of necklace I want to make to wear with it.  I may even put it on for date night tonight with Ian.

What are your weekend plans?
