The $7 Bathtime Trick

Would you believe that this sweet little face screamed during baths?

Maybe I had the water too chilly, or maybe she was feeding off of my intense fear of bathing a newborn (those darn things are SLIPPERY!), but all I knew is that something had to change. Baths are one of my very favorite things, and I was determined to make bathtime a more pleasant experience for both of us.

Enter: the $7 bathtime trick.

This Summer Infant bath sponge is seven blissful bucks, and I'd pay double that. Or triple. You can get it here on Amazon. I think any new mom who opened this at a baby shower would be somewhat excited, but then they would be absolutely praising you once they put it to use!

It keeps the baby safe -- no risk of them slipping out of your hands and bumping their heads on the side of the sink (yes, this happened to me, and I felt horrible). It absorbs the warm water, keeping the baby from getting chilly. You can use it in your sink, in your baby tub, or right in the big tub. It's also mildew-resistant.

I mean, here is a baby that clearly adores the sponge:

Well, maybe her face doesn't totally reflect the way she feels.

But her mom was shooting a photo of her during her bath, can you blame her?!

Honestly, though, get this thing. For seven bucks, you really can't go wrong. It has singlehandedly changed our nightly bathtime routine!

  2. My mom had one of those for me when I was a baby, but it was shaped like a bear! Good to know some classics never go out of style. :)

  3. I have a similar bath sponge a co-worker bought for me when I asked her what her absolute baby essentials were. LOVE it! L still doesn't love bath time but it gives me confidence to bathe her!

  6. I just went and immediately added this to my baby registry. We already have another little plastic bath seat, but I am always interested in other options.

    Thanks for the tip!

  7. Oh, the bath sponge is just the best! I was terrified to give my little muffin a bath until i got one... I actually had one at my mothers and my mother in laws for baths there, too! It is a must! And once she could sit, it was way easier and more stable for her to sit ans splash on. (even toddlers are slipperly little things!)
so glad you discovered this wonder -- and hope she is liking her baths a little more! :-)

  9. Aww! I wish I knew this sooner! Miles used to hate bath times, but now he LOVES THEM! He is usually fussy in the evenings, but as soon as I bring him into the bathroom and turn on the water, he literally gets GIDDY with excitement! It kills me :) I'll have to post a video to instragram at some point!

  11. We used this with both babies when they were teeny and loved it! Then we moved to the summer bath lounger thing and loved that, too. Our big trick that I never considered came from moms on call... Putting the warm wash cloth over the baby. I mean... Why didn't I ever think of that as a way to keep them warm?

  12. You just taught this soon-to-be second time mom a new trick. We used to tag team tiny baby baths because we were so worried. This would make it much easier to manage solo baths. Thanks!

  13. Oh this is a good one to remember for baby #2- we used a baby bath with a sling which worked out well but I always felt like he got so scrunded up in the sling, it didn't look comfortable.

  16. My advice- buy 2! If they poop while in the bath it isn't fun to clean up! If you don't ever end up using it you can always gift it to someone!

  17. It might be just me but I feel like all the good baby "stuff" was never around when my kiddos where newborns. But I am so happy you found a product that makes both of you happy!

  19. She's sooo adorable!

We used that bath sponge inside our infant tub when my daughter was little because she'd slip around too much inside it. You should get the 4moms tub--it has a temperature gauge on it so there is NO guessing if the water is too hot or too cold! It also keeps fresh water flowing in the tub so when they go to the bathrooom it will flow right out (which happens) and it also keeps the water warm!

  20. Yes! We used that sponge for a good long while! Makes such a huge difference. :) We placed it in our Primo EuroBath on the infant side and it worked great.
