Celebrating Our Country

I hope you all have fun plans for the 4th of July!

We have a fun long weekend planned with lots to do -- Pops In The Park tonight (rain, rain, go away!), family time at the lakehouse, and an engagement celebration for one of Ian's high school friends.  Lots of fun times ahead with fireworks and sparklers ... the latter my favorite, because they always remind me of our dash to our getaway car after our wedding!

So now the big debate -- what to eat, what to drink?!

Martha Stewart's strawberry and waffle trifle looks oh-so-good, yes?  A few blueberries sprinkled on top and it would be totally patriotic.

Beverage-wise, I've been wanting to try this blueberry vodka and low-cal lemonade (like Crystal Light) cocktail.  Toss in a few blueberries and a mint sprig and it's good to go!

I'm always excited to celebrate being an American, but our Europe adventure last month -- which was amazing, fantastic, and exhilarating -- further cemented to me how gosh-darn-amazing our country really is.  Don't get me wrong ... visiting France, Switzerland, and Italy was one of the most incredible experiences of my life and the countries will bring you to tears they are so beautiful.  And the US is not perfect!  But I will say ... we've got a pretty good thing goin' on, ya'll.  Happy Independence Day!

  1. I love a good blueberry lemonade! I love to mix in some fresh lemon juice so it's not too sweet *and* a little hidden dash of some heat - either some fresh ginger or some cayenne/hot sauce. Sounds ridiculous, but it's that mystery flavor nobody can place but makes it really unique :)

  2. That strawberry trifle looks absolutely delicious! I would certainly add some blackberries (I'm not a blueberry fan) to make it a little more patriotic!
