Fashion On A Sunday Night

Yesterday we returned from the mountains, and we were exhausted and (ahem) dehydrated.  Very dehydrated.

All I could think about was taking a nap, which I did manage to sneak in during the trip home.  Our fluffy dog Drake was in the backseat and I snuggled right up to him and napped on him as he slept.  I lost all feeling in my right leg but it was totally worth it and sweet.

So with plans of doing nothing more than that for the rest of the afternoon and evening, imagine my surprise to get an email from Charlotte Tidbits saying I had been drawn as the lucky winner for a ticket to Lights! Camera! Fashion! at Belk.  A fashion show.  That very night.

So of course I rallied and went!  All it took was a few hours at home being lazy and recuperating, and next thing I knew I was putting my hair back in hot rollers and I was out the door.

The event is a large fundraiser for the Junior League of Charlotte.  Hosted by Belk, the evening featured a fashion show to get us all amped up for fall.  As if we weren't already.  Bring on the boots and scarves!

All attendees received a swag bag with some fun goodies and a Belk gift card.  Additionally, all purchases were 20% off for the evening.  Due to my vow of a no-shopping month, I didn't purchase anything, but my goodness gracious, it was tempting!

They had stations with cheese, crudites, and fresh fruit.  Servers with silver trays of hors d'oeuvres also made their way around the store.  For any of you unfamiliar with the Belk in Southpark Mall, it is amazing.  It's the flagship store, so it carries a lot of lines you don't see in traditional Belk stores.  All of you Lilly lovers who haven't visited the store would be astounded at their Lilly Pulitzer department.

Oh yeah, and they had wine.  I steered clear.  :)

A live jazz band played while the ladies shopped, sipped, snacked, and checked out each others' outfits.

Like a moth to a flame, I found myself drawn to these beauties.

Yep, they were on sale too.

I resisted the urge (self-pat on the back)

These were tough to walk away from, too.

The fashion show was a lot of fun.  The music was great, the lighting perfect, and oh -- don't get me started on some of the clothes.

Here's what I saw lots of for the season:
  • Fitted & feminine coats and trenches
  • Faux fur
  • RED and lots of it.  Lips, dresses, hats!
  • Boots ... from booties to thigh-high
  • Layers upon layers
  • Capes galore
  • Shorts with tights
  • Sparkly sequins

The event featured a guest appearance by designer Karen Kane.  The fashion show's finale showcased all of her fall fashions, including the incredible sequined frocks below.  Hmmmm.... someone has a big 30th birthday coming up this January -- maybe I need something sparkly to sport!

I think I know where I'm headed when no-shopping month is over.  :)

  6. What a fun event! I just bought a pair of wool black shorts to wear over tights--and the tights happen to be sparkly. Looks like I'm right on trend. ;)
