The Deal With The Apple Nachos...

The deal with the apple nachos is that they were AWESOME.

Positively, mouth-wateringly, deliciously AWESOME.

Make. This. Recipe. 

And I use the term "recipe" loosely.  It's more like an arrangement of foods.  Sliced apples (I used red + green, tossed them in a little mixture of orange juice and lemon juice to prevent browning).  Milk chocolate chips.  Salted peanuts.  Coconut.  Drizzled caramel.  Chopped Snickers bars.

I basically took this recipe and made it a smidge less healthy.  Sue me.

The Snickers were a total impulse buy.  I was standing there at the grocery store waiting to check out, ingredients already in my basket, and then I saw the Snickers bar.  It was all over!  I knew that would make the perfect addition to these "nachos."

So yes ... make this. 
Immediately!
Chop chop!

This was the perfect Superbowl Sunday sweet.  We just had our friends Linds & Casey over.  Linds was due with their baby boy two days prior (on  Friday) and still hadn't gone into labor, so this year we all went really low-key.  Stayed near home, stayed near the hospital.  And it was lovely and perfect!

Other than the apple nachos, we had chips with onion dip, mozzarella sticks, and pizza.

A Bloody Mary bar, too.

So a few new things that I'm totally in love with: apple nachos, a pepperoncini in my bloody mary, and the perfect baby boy that was born on Tuesday afternoon.  :)

What's In My Bag

There's really no time that I don't love being a girlie-girl, except for those few fleeting moments where I look at my husband who is not carting around a 10-pound handbag and develop immense jealousy.

Guys really have it good in that regard, and also in the fact that they can go from PJs to ready in 9 minutes flat.  (sigh)

Other than that -- females are definitely the fairer sex, and if we're going to cart around those heavy handbags, may as well fill them with fun goodies.

Here's a glimpse at what you can find in my purse at this very moment.

{1} Two phones.

Yes, I hate being that girl juggling two phones.  When I first accepted my job 5 years ago, I thought it was pretty sweet.  Now, it's a bit annoying.  I can't combine the two due to HIPAA regulations and the nature of my job.  So for now, I'm a two-phone gal.  And for the record ... iPhones blow Blackberries out of the water.

{2} Two books of matches. 

Somehow these just collect in my purses.  From time to time, I add them to a glass canister in our dining room.

{3} Bath & Body Works PocketBac.

The perfect size, and they truly do smell oh-so-yummy!  I used to think they were unnecessarily scented, but then I got tired of feeling eyes on me in airplanes when a distinct smell of spilled vodka (in actuality, my "no-frills" drugstore brand hand sanitizer) filled the air. 

{4} The all-important koozie.

Because you never know when the mood may strike you to keep your beer cold and feminine-looking.

{5} The cult classic, Rosebud Salve.

The wonder product.  It mainly goes on my lips, but also helps take care of those winter-fied hands with dry cuticles.  I get mine from Sephora ($6 here) and it lasts a long time.

{6} My newest drugstore makeup experiment, Hard Candy Megawatt Smile.

I read about this in a magazine - conditioning lipstick on one end, brush-on teeth whitener at the base.  I got the Shine On color, which is more of a nude color.  I won't say I'm crazy about the conditioning lipstick portion (it doesn't have the staying power that I'd like) but the tooth whitener does seem to work well so far.  Walmart carries this line and a tube will run you $6.

Oh, and um, the Splenda packets?  I may accidentally get a little heavy-handed at the following places: Starbucks, Caribou, Dean & Deluca.  They wind up somehow next to my home coffeemaker.  Oopsies.

I don't know about you, but when I first saw this photo of SJP, I was head over {kitten} heels.

I'd like to think the answer is a resounding si, senora.

And if any day gives me the guts to do it, it would be the big ol' 14th which is rounding the corner ... just one week.  One glorious little week.  (Hopeless romantic here who looooves V-Day)

Chicken + Waffles {holy moly}

Recently we were double-dating with our friends on a Friday night, and the topic of chicken and waffles came up.

None of us had ever had this dish but we were intrigued.  Majorly intrigued.

We all got together again that Sunday for football (guys = happy) and appetizers (girls = happy).  I figured this was the perfect time to surprise everyone with chicken and waffles!

 

 

I used Mint Love Social Club's idea of the mini Eggo waffles as the base.

 

For the chicken, my first thought was YES! Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets! and that was followed immediately by a NO! it's Sunday and it's clooooooosed goshdarnit.

 

I went to plan B, which was pre-made chicken tenders from the grocery store deli.  I was making a few apps and that was just the perfect shortcut I needed. I cut the tenders in bite-sized pieces and put them and the mini-waffles in the oven to heat up.  Then I just stacked them.  Easy!

 

 

For the sauce, I found this idea from Southern Living and knew it sounded perfect:

 

Peach-Horseradish Maple Syrup

 

1 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup peach preserves

2 teaspoons prepared horseradish

1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper

1/4 teaspoon salt

 

Stir together maple syrup, peach preserves, horseradish, pepper, and salt in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH 30 seconds or until warm. 

 

They got a drizzle of this goodness along with a sprinkling of chopped green onions and they were ready to serve!

 

These were a H-I-T hit.  The next time I host Supper Club, I most certainly will be spoiling the gals with these!

May I gush on someone for a bit?

The cutest, sweetest Etsy shop with the cutest, sweetest owner is Charmed Bliss.  Liza's shop is filled with all sorts of monogrammed goodies, and she is a pure delight to deal with.

She graciously allowed me to try out her rainboot decals, and I was so excited to get these bad boys on.  The process was so easy and quick.  She's also offered to do a giveaway of her rainboot decals to five (FIVE!) lucky A. Liz Adventures readers. 

You'll get to choose your style and color preference.  Liza sent me two sets to try out, and I chose Green Apple for the black and white pair, and Khaki for the pink animal print pair.

How cute are these?  I fell in love with my rainboots all over again.  I might be doing a rain dance just for the opportunity to wear them!
