Kerry Rings In The Big 3-0 In Style

I had the best weekend celebrating my friend Kerry's 30th birthday in Greenville, South Carolina.  Greenville is such a special city -- it truly has my heart.  Not only is it the city where I spent my beloved four college years at Furman, but it's also just a truly fun place.  Everyone who visits falls instantly in love... at least, I think so.  :)

We started Saturday evening by opening a bottle of champagne while getting ready.


Kerry's boyfriend Will was our photographer, living room DJ, and chauffeur ... and he was, along with our friend Kate, the co-planner extraordinaire for this fabulous fete!



We headed to Lazy Goat, where I'd just been the weekend prior for my sister Laura's wedding, and had a great dinner and a very special cake for the birthday girl.

Sidenote: the sweet potato cake from Brickstreet Cafe is ... how do I put this ... LIFE-CHANGING.




I had so many fun girlfriends there, and we all chatted and danced the night away.


The current Miss South Carolina crowned the birthday girl with her tiara.



After a long night of chapagne sippin' and dancing in stilettos, we got back to Kerry's condo and absolutely crashed. 


Kerry's boyfriend came over the next morning with a very important delivery -- our first Pumpkin Spice Lattes of the season.  With the chilly morning air coming in through Kerry's patio doors, it was the perfect setting to justify this Fall favorite. 

Ker, so incredibly happy to spend your 30th with you, and cheers to a fabulous year ahead!

A Delicious Smelling Home

There's something about the chill in the {almost} Fall air that makes me giddy about lighting candles in our home. I love firing up a candle on a Saturday morning as we pour our coffee and see it flickering all day long while putting out a lovely scent in our house.

Maybe I'm just getting older, but I find myself gravitating toward nicer and more "pretty" candles rather than just the run-of-the-mill candle. And if a higher quality candle costs a few bucks more, I spring for it. A soy candle, for example, often costs a bit more, but has a stronger smell and therefore lasts longer for me.


I often go for floral scents for our home -- that is, until Fall REALLY hits.  Then, scents like pumpkin pie and Grandma's Kitchen and apple crumble completely take over in our home. 

As I've mentioned before, I'm also a fan of this often-repinned idea with rosemary, lemon, and vanilla.


And for the holidays, I'll be eagerly awaiting the chance to give this simmering pot recipe a try:

The Written Word

So, it's no secret that I am in love with the written word.

I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to the art of writing.
It's a fun place to store ideas for calligraphy fonts, monogram inspiration, and addressing styles.


Even some invitation etiquette tips.  Important, and always great to have on hand.



My collection of personal stationery and cards is (ahem) busting at the seams.  Which makes me very, very happy!

When we were living in our temporary condo before closing on our house, all I wanted to do was order some personalized return address labels.  Something about that purchase just says: "we are home" -- do you agree?

Last week I ordered some of the most amazing return address labels that I just HAVE to brag on.  Tiny Prints, you have outdone yourself once again. 

The first set of return address labels I ordered are called Blossoming Star.  I modified the text color to Wild Strawberry which is the sweetest pink color.


The second set I ordered is called Dashing Day ... also in Wild Strawberry (it comes in a few colors). 


Since both of these sets were ordered with just my name on them (and they are pretty girly), I decided to order a co-ed set as well.  The Chalkboard List design easily caught my eye.  This one reads "April + Ian" at top.


So yeah ... I stocked up.  And I had a blast doing so!

I've ordered my holiday cards through Tiny Prints before, so I knew the quality was going to be good, but even I was shocked when I received my order.  The colors are so bright and vivid.  Even better than I expected!  They have done it again.

So, from a girl who is pretty darn particular about her stationery, I can tell you that I was pleased as peas.

Next on my wishlist?  A really perfect card for Ian for his birthday.  I've got about one month left to find it.  I know it may sound silly to plan so far out for a birthday card, but he just has such a varied list of interests (zombies, golf, IPAs, skulls & crossbones, football, barbeque, his job, dogs, a low carb lifestyle, and mowing the lawn), that picking out a card that speaks to him is a fun task ... and I'm up for it!

No Boys Allowed

Ian recently had a guys' night for their Fantasy Football draft, and I had the house all to myself.

You know what that means ... right?

GIRLY NIGHT.

And I also admit that I finally put a dent in a show that has been clogging up our DVR for far too long.


And I got through three episodes ... now I only have about 42 left (or at least that's how it seems).

I just can't wait to see if she makes it through her wedding day without a wardrobe malfunction.

Oh! I also gave myself a manicure.

From time to time, a girly night is a definite, definite MUST.

See Ya, Summer + Guys Are So Funny

I had the most amazing Labor Day weekend -- I gained a brother and saw my sister look the most beautiful I've ever seen her on their wedding day! 

With the holiday behind us, I can't believe that it's time to stow away the white jeans and the bathing suits ... Starbucks is officially serving their Pumpkin Spice Lattes and I'm getting used to the sound of a football game going on as the ever-present background noise in our house.

And speaking of cooler temps and the switching of the seasons -- my husband takes his seasonal brews very, very seriously.




I mean ... have you ever?!

(And just in case you are curious, out of all pumpkin beer varieties, this is hands down the BEST.)

I can't say that I am not excited to partake in a little pumpkin as well:
