The Deal With Maternity Clothes.

Maternity clothes.

Le sigh.

I do have a little more comfort in today's preggo fashions after visiting home this past Saturday. Mom and I were looking through the closets and she showed me some of her favorite maternity clothes that she saved. There was definitely an emphasis on concealing the belly. Lots of dresses with LOTS of fabric involved. How times have changed! I do love clothes that are forgiving, but I certainly don't mind showing off the bump.

For this weekend's Junior League Holiday Market in Columbia, I wore a new favorite shirt (a Kohl's find -- I'd heard from a coworker that they had a decent maternity line). Sadly, I'm not finding it online anymore but if you want to see if your store has it, it's called the Oh Baby Knot-Front Surplice Top.

Have this top, so soft and comfy.

It's made of that soft-soft-soft cotton that is really stretchy and I just love the ruching and the wrap-front.

I've held off on other maternity fashions for as long as I can, but with the way baby girl has been growing recently, it's about that time to start adding to the wardrobe.

My gameplan is this: go with neutrals, and accent with fun accessories! Here is a little board I put together to show some styling ideas.

Maternity Basics: Neutrals

That polka-dot sweater is from Old Navy and sizes are limited online ($32 here) but you may want to check your store. Those jeans I paired it with have been mentioned here a gazillion fourteen times but they are the Old Navy skinnies I just adore (sale, $27 here).

The striped tunic is just such a pretty shape and it's Liz Lange from Target ($25, online only). You know I live in leggings and these are the Oh Baby brand from Kohls ($18 here).

The third outfit will be a chilly weather go-to for me (ooh la la cute booties! $110 here). The jeans and henley are both Old Navy maternity ($25 and $12-17, respectively) and the vest is H&M ($60 here). It's obviously not maternity but it can be worn open and then tied up when the belly fits it again.

With enough fun accessories and great shoes -- maybe it will be less obvious how often I am re-wearing all of the same basic pieces!

  12. I actually loved maternity clothes. I was pregnant in the summer and loved wearing maxi dresses every day! I never really found pants that I loved other than wearing yoga pants (and still do).

  13. Have you checked Macy's? They carry Jessica Simpson's line. I got a few things there when I was pregnant. :)

  15. I found most of my favorite maternity clothes at Target! And I also bought quite a few tees, dresses and such from GAP. Toward the end though, I pretty much just wore sweats, a tee and an open cardigan!

  16. Skinnie jeans and leggings plus GAP tops saved my maternity fashion...luckily, I got bigger during the spring when I could throw on a maxi with a cardigan, if needed. I LOVE that vest - I may have to snag it for my non-maternity wardrobe!! Haha

  19. I bought most of my maternity clothes from Gap and I had some splurges from Pea in a Pod- I hope to have more than one baby and I tried to buy classic pieces so I can wear them again! That way I didn't feel so bad spending more $$
I lived in leggings in the winter/spring and then maxi dresses in my last 6 weeks.
