Five On Friday

It's time for another edition of Five on Friday and I do hope you'll join along!

Remember, all you have to do is post about five things on your mind, add our logo (found at the bottom of this post), and join the party using the linky tools below. Easy, and a great way to find new blogs and be found. :)

Thank you to everyone who links up with us each week!

O N E
First of all, I think that many of you may be aware of what is going on in my friend Christina's life with her sweet baby boy Thomas. I was reading through the amazing and supportive comments that people left on her posts about his eye health and saw that one commenter mentioned that she has an alarm set on her phone for 11:45 today, the time of his first cataract surgery. I thought this was BRILLIANT and sweet. So I'm encouraging all of you to think of Christina's family during this time and maybe even think about setting an alarm on your own phone to go off today at 11:45. It will be a quick reminder to us to spend a moment thinking about Thomas, everyone who loves him, and his very talented medical staff.

I've got my alarm set! Do you?

Mom and I are really excited to be wrapping up several cooler-weather bonnets now for The Tipsy Bunny. We've even added a few to the shop! This pink cord bonnet is my favorite and I just couldn't help but to show it off here.

I have to share with you the newest two books that Camille loves. Loves? Okay, she's OBSESSED with these books. We read them several times daily. We always read books before morning nap, afternoon nap, and bedtime (and sometimes in between). She positively gravitates towards these two.

Sniff!

I have a silly question. Do you keep your nails painted? Ever since I had Camille, I just have not prioritized painting my nails. I always used to keep them painted, usually a very pale pink or a nude color. It's too hard now to find the time for the upkeep. And I don't really love the maintenance of gel nails, either (although they were awesome for my wedding/honeymoon). I saw this Essie shade the other day, Topless and Barefoot (wow-eee), and loved it. And I did paint my nails a coral-pink color on Monday, but of course it's chipping already and driving me nuts. Any tips on keeping nice-looking nails as a busy mom of a toddler?

Now that I'm staying home with Camille, I'm handling all three meals plus a snack. Creativity is key to break up the same old, same old meals. She seems to really get a kick out of when I use these silicone ice cube trays to put her food! This morning she had mini-pancakes with peanut butter on them and banana chunks sprinkled with pumpkin pie spice. We've also used them for snacktime -- just load them up with different berries, goldfish, Cheerios, raisins, you get the idea!

If you're looking for some ice cube trays like mine, you can find them on Amazon here and here.

TGIF y'all, and hope you will join in on Five on Friday this week! Cheers to the weekend!

  2. Seche Vite Dry fast top coat does wonders for keeping my nails from chipping! You can find it at Target in the nail polish aisle in a box :) And prayers for Thomas and his medical team!

  3. I am not yet the mom of a toddler - BUT - I have been using Essie's Gel Topcoat, and I find that it works pretty well to keep the color on for at least a week, which is honestly about as long as I like to have the same color on! I've also used Sally Hansen's Diamond finish - and it works pretty well and also dries SUPER fast!

  4. Am praying for Thomas! I can't even imagine. But I do know our God is the great physician! And as for my nails, ha. I fortunately have very white and healthy tips naturally on my fingers so I never wear polish. My toes are a bit different. I do keep them painted but I'm always behind. No time as you say!

  5. It is SO hard keeping nail polish on my fingers these days. Granted, I always chipped it within days when I was teaching too, but I don't have any secrets. Please share if you find something great! Love that color you shared!

  6. Setting my alarm to pray for Christina!

Chipped nails? The solution is Shellac polish. You'll have to go the salon for that, but you won't have chipped nails for two full weeks. I honestly get a nude color and only get my nails done once a month. ;) It works for me.

Charlotte loved that book, too! Board books are still our favorite. :)

  7. I feel the same about my nails! I keep my toes painted but just don't go to the effort to keep my fingers done! Oh yeah, we did something similar to the ice cube tray thing at Easter. We used an egg carton and plastic eggs and noah loved it!

  8. Essie topless and barefoot is a favorite! I have it on right now (yes it's horribly chipped!) but maybe because it's so nude, it doesn't drive me quite as nuts as chipped darker nails would make me!! ee have that silicon tray- fun idea to do toddler food out of it- might have to give that a try! (And that bib is too cute! Ours is looking grungy and stained- where'd you get the adorable yellow one?!?)

  9. My sister and I would always get manicures but with 2 little ones and a husband working out of state, it hasn't happened in a while. She bought one of those heatless shellac kits and we each bought a couple of colors. She comes over and we do each other's nails. The at-home shellac doesn't last as long as the nail salon but it definitely has more staying power than regular nail polish! We get ours a Targs!

  10. It is so hard for me to keep color on my nails! I love the look but I hate how it chips after a few days. I did use someone's at-home gel kit and that worked really well but my nails always feel damaged after gel. I'll be praying for Thomas today!

  11. Nothing bothers me more than chipped nails! I feel you! I keep considering those at-home gel manicures, but I haven't heard anyone say they love them. I do love the salon shellac though because I get a solid 2 weeks (if not more!) from it with no chips.

  12. I bought Essie "Ballet Slippers" last weekend and have yet to use it. I don't even have kids yet but literally cannot find 10 minutes to paint my nails + an extra 30 minutes of not doing anything to let them dry. #thestruggle

  13. praying for sweet little thomas, caroline and their family. i never polish my fingernails but i try to do my toes... i need to give myself a pedicure today, hoping to do that during vi's second nap! xo jillian - stop by! I'm hosting a freshly picked moccasin giveaway on cornflake dreams

  14. I can't do real color on my fingers...when it chips 4.5 seconds after I finish, it just drives me nuts. I usually do a very soft color so that it's not as obvious. But my toes? That's where all the color is!

  15. I completely agree about the nail painting! I used to be so good about it but ever since the twins were born it just seems silly to paint them since they will probably chip within 24 hours. I think it's all the bottles I'm washing that are making them break down quicker. I'd say to just stick with gel polish, but even that doesn't seem to withstand the amount of dishes I'm washing. Oh mom problems... lol

  16. I definitely being praying for precious Thomas!! I just got my mom Sally Hansen's gel nail polish and gel top coat for her birthday....I am going to be at her house this weekend and going to try it out for myself! It is supposed to last 14 days with no chips- I will let you know if that is really true!! :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend- your Camille is just absolutely ADORABLE!!

  17. Camille is adorable! I don't keep my nails painted because they constantly chip. And while I have the free time, I don't like to have to be careful about what I touch during my free time. Haha. It's a hassle to me! I did gel nails once and at first loved them but then I was kinda eh. I may do them for our wedding though.

  18. Topless & Barefoot has been my go-to this summer - a little more 'putty' than pink and I love it. I use two top coats -- Seche Vite and then a Nails Inc caviar one for extra shine. I also keep my nails ultra short and I've found they chip less often short vs. long.

Keeping that sweet babe in my thoughts!

  19. I LOVE That Essie color!! I don't regularly paint my nails though ...

  20. I have never visited your blog before and just happened to land here at 11:45. Praying for your friend and her beautiful baby.

  21. I love that bonnet!!! I definitely need to order something from your shop soon! And love yet another genius tip from you...I need to get those ice cube trays ASAP. When is your book of all these great ideas coming out?! I will buy it! Haha :)

  22. I use a gel top coat! I use the Revlon Gel Envy over all my polishes and as someone who works with kids, I get a good 10 days out of them. Plus it dries within 10-20 minutes!

  24. Prayers for Thomas, I'll be thinking about him at 11:45! As far as keeping your nails lasting longer, make sure you really "prime" the nail by cleaning it and pushing back cuticles, it can be slightly time consuming, but worth it. Sally Hansen has a good base and top coat. Loving that Essie color!

  25. I've never been one to paint my fingernails. My toes, on the other hand are always painted.

My favorite trick to get my picky eater to eat is putting the food in a fun container like how you do with the ice tray. Somehow it just gets them to eat it.

  26. I am a mom of a 1.5 year old and keeping the nails nice is tough! I just discovered Essie Gel Setter and now I can go 4 to 5 days without a chip!

  27. I love your 5...I did it for the first time today. I was reading about sweet baby Thomas last night. I will definitely be praying for a successful surgery.

  28. My Olivia's favorite book right now is Where is Baby's Belly Button. She absolutely LOVES it!

And yes, I have the same problem with the chipped nails... I just bought the Essie gel setter topcoat, so I'm hoping that it will make my manicures last a little longer. I'll hopefully be trying it out this weekend!

  29. I use one coat of Essie Gel Setter top coat and then one coat of Essie Good to Go top coat (shorten's drying time). I can usually get 5 days before any chips.

  30. Love the idea of the silicone trays for snack time! Walker has been killing me on eating lately, so maybe this will freshen it up. And, I'll try the bananas with the pumpkin pie spice, too! :)

  31. I love those ice trays you're using for Camille. It is similar to the bento boxes you were posting about earlier this week! Have a great weekend!

  32. I hear ya on all five accounts! Two layers of a good clear coat helps keep my nails with a toddler. Sally Hansen's clear or diamond one is great & affordable..... Keeping them shorter helps too plus I keep a clear polish in the car for when I have 5 min waiting. I do one clear coat when they are first painted and then one for maintainace a day later or so. Ps. Gotta read some labels, like the fast dry coats, seche, etc. bc some have very bad chemicals in them & can harm if pregnant, etc. Not perfect solution but I try as having my nails simple & pretty makes me feel great. Little things, ya know?

  33. Perfectly polished nails are out of the question about 95% of the time for me! I do like a clear coat sometimes on a more frequent occasion. It's enough to to schedule a pedicure! :) love that color you found!

  36. Once I had my twins I stopped getting my nails done. I do throw on a couple coats of Vinylux by CND, the top coat that goes with it makes it dry in about seven-ish minutes. My nails look pretty perfect doing that and I love that I can throw a few coats on a be good. They have tons of fun, bright, dark, pale colors. Something for everyone. I also use the top coat on other colors (by other brands that I love) they also dry really nicely. You might give it a try if you haven't before.

  37. I get my nails shellaced at the salon every two weeks. I also buy my own color so I can get the matching not gel shade. This way I can do a touch up if any of them peel off or chip before my next appointment. I get paid bimonthly so I will usually only go on or right after payday. I normally don't have to touch them within two weeks.

  38. jamberry nail wraps! last for up to 2-3 weeks with no chipping, on your toes up to 6!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm not sure if anyone else already commented but Essie has this gel like nail polish top coat stuff that is supposed to be awesome and be like regular nail polish but have the effects of gel (i.e. stays longer and doesn't chip). I have some but haven't tried it yet but people rant and rave about it!
Also, I just clicked over and read Christina's story about her sweet son Thomas. Praying for the best for them.
