Our Asheville Girls Trip

This Saturday morning I headed to Asheville, North Carolina with some girlfriends for a quick getaway. We arrived at 10:30, and after a quick stop at the hotel, we headed downtown to grab brunch. Tupelo Honey was our first choice, but we were starving and the 1-1.5 hour wait time was quickly beat out by Mayfel's, which is located just a few doors down. They only had a 30 minute wait, and I'd eaten there before so I knew it was great. Plus the kitschy decor and chandelier-filled ceilings are just right up my alley.

Please just take a moment to admire my pumpkin brioche french toast topped with spiced apples and hazelnut whipped cream. It was a sight to behold.

The girls got mimosas and I got ... orange juice. Still delicious though :)

After brunch we just walked all over downtown Asheville, popping in shops and boutiques and listening to some great live street music. These guys played such interesting, chill music and I even left with one of their CDs.

I took this photo mainly for my Aunt Karen to see -- we visited a great bookstore and they had a section of "blind date" books. You pick out a book based upon the descriptive words on the front and only after purchasing it do you unwrap it to find out what your surprise read is. Don't love it or already have read it? Just bring it back to swap it out for a different one.

If I call this a novel idea ... would you hate me? ;-)

Later that afternoon we stopped in at Posana Cafe for a few afternoon beverages. Thank goodness for yummy mocktails, I could keep right up with the gals AND drive us around safely!

Before dinner that night we grabbed a drink at Red Stag Grill, the restaurant and bar in the Grand Bohemian Hotel. I have got to stay at that hotel sometime with Ian; it is one of the prettiest and most uniquely-decorated hotels I've ever been in.

The night ended perfectly with dinner at Rezaz where we had one of the better meals we've had in a long while, PLUS I spotted a cocktail on the menu which included lavender simple syrup, so the bartender was sweet enough to concoct a liquor-free beverage for me that included that ingredient. It was divine.

Girls weekends truly are good for the soul and this one was no exception. I just love my girlies!

  7. I had to comment on this post because you and Ian MUST stay at the Grand Bohemian! We stayed there for 2 nights after our wedding 4 years ago, and it is heaven. The rooms are gorgeous, the spa is amazing, and the Red Stag has delicious food! You will not be disappointed :)

  10. The blind date with a book sounds so interesting. I know I always judge a book by it's cover!!! Maybe it would help me be more open minded? Maybe I need to try this with my dating life. Ha.

  12. Lovely weekend with the girls! I drank SO many Shirley Temples (my "mocktail" of choice) when I was pregnant with Owen. And honestly, I liked not drinking -- at least the whole not feeling yucky the next day.
