New Orleans Recommendations

We will soon be New Orleans bound ... and I would love your help.

What should we do?
What should we see?
Where should we eat?

Spill it ... I'd love any suggestions you have!

  1. Not sure where you are staying or whether you've ever been to NOLA before but here's a few for newbies.
    * Pat O'Brien's - drinks in the courtyard but I really love have cocktails in the dueling piano bar too at night :)
    * Brunch at either Brennans or the Court of Two Sisters.
    * Cafe DuMonde then walk over to Jackson Square and take picture.
    * Laffitte's Blacksmith Shop - it's the oldest bar in America..
    * I also love the Absinthe House Bar in the Quarter

If you want to be really cheesy take a carriage tour. I did it once with my nieces and thought it was pretty interesting and fun. Sort of like doing it in Charleston.

  2. I am headed to new orleans this weekend for a wedding! I am in the same boat! I have heard that Cafe Du Monde is a neat little coffee/donut shop. And There is a haunted tour!

  3. Last time I was in NOLA I was flashing for plastic beads. Not sure if I'd be much help.

  4. How fun! I have lots of New Orleans scoop on my blog from our trips earlier this year. Just search for New Orleans!

Galatoire's is where you should go for a splurge dinner. Make reservations.

  9. I LOVE New Orleans! We went to Paul Prudhomme's restaurant K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen in the French Quarter and had one of the best meals of our life! The Audubon Aquarium is a lot of fun (and is a nice break if it's a hot afternoon). Finally, be sure you check out the French Market. It's huge and open 7 days a week! I'm so jealous!

  10. The Palace Cafe is amazing. It is owned by the Brennan family, who also own Commander's Palace, Heritage Grill, Brennan's, etc. I highly recommend the shrimp Tchefuncte and the bananas foster.

  12. A streetcar ride down St. Charles Avenue, shopping on Magazine Street (near Jefferson there are a bunch of boutiques), brunch at Patois, a nice dinner at Stella, a stroll near Jackson Square with a stop for gelato at La Davina or breakfast at Stanley, a stroll down Royal Street to view the galleries and boutiques, and then you must have beignets (Cafe Beignet doesn't have a long wait like Cafe du Monde). I'm from the area and hope you enjoy your stay!

  15. My favorite Impressionist artist is Edgar Degas and his mother's family is from New Orleans. They've turned the house he stayed in into a hotel and they give guided tours. My mom and I went last time we were there and it was fabulous! You have to call ahead and schedule the tour - just check out the Degas house website for the information!

  16. The Bourbon House has a great atmosphere and DELISH Bourbon Milk Punch!!! Their oysters are second to none and there is never a line to get in unlike Acme.
