Match Box Tutorial

If you're like me, a house is not a home without a few great-smelling candles burning.  This past December I made some really fun boxes of matches for stocking stuffers.  The best thing about these is that they are quite pretty sitting out right next to your candles.  Here's a box that I already made a few months back:

I also promised you a tutorial, so here you go!

Step 1: Gather supplies.  You'll need boxes of matches (I got a stack of 2 at the dollar store), Mod Podge, spray adhesive, a white paint pen, a foam brush, scissors, and scrapbook paper.

Step 2: Measure your match boxes and cut out the paper to the appropriate size.  You'll need just one rectangle for the top and one for the bottom.

Step 3: Take it outside!  Spray the backs of the paper with spray adhesive in an even layer.  Bring them inside while they're still sticky.

Step 4: Adhere each rectangular piece to the top and bottom.

Step 5: You'll end up with some of the original red box showing.  UGLY!  Use your paint pen to cover this.  It will take a few layers; wait for each coat to dry before covering again with the paint pen.

Step 6: Use your Mod Podge and foam brush to cover the top and bottom piece, overlapping to the side but not covering the strip you'll use to strike the match (obvi).  Let dry.

You're all set!  Enjoy using your beautiful new match boxes!
