Friday

Friday Happies.

First of all, yesterday's post was maybe a little random but reading your comments brought me so much JOY!  Hearing all of the highlights of your week -- some small, some monumental -- each and every one brought a big smile to my face.

Thanks to all for sharing, and I really am excited to send Amanda the shoelaces.  I have such a special place in my heart for the Special Olympics and anyone who works with special needs children.  So, Amanda, email me and let's make sure these neon orange laces get in the mail soon so that you'll have them for next Friday!

This should be a very fun weekend, and it will all get started with the Band of Horses concert tonight.

To all of my mama friends, and to one very important mama in particular, we celebrate you this weekend.

Happy Mothers Day, Mama.  Love you so very much and I hope to be just like YOU.

Thursday

Let Me Send You Shoelaces.

Hi pretties, just quickly checking in ... what a busy week it's been!

I'm proud to say that I have been working out consistently this week and I think it's because of my super-cool neon pink shoelaces.  Honest.

(If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read this post)

And just as a little surcee from me to you, I wanted to pass along a fun little idea.

YOU: Tell me what the highlight of your week has been in a comment below.
ME: I'll read through the comments left today and tomorrow.  By 12 noon Eastern time, I'll pick one comment that really resonates with me and I'm gonna send that commenter some funky neon orange shoelaces.

You don't have to be a blogger, you don't have to have some extraordinary crazy story, just something that brought a big smile to your face this week.

NEON ORANGE SHOELACES.
You need 'em.
And I just want to hear about your happy times.

So .... go!

Sparkly Green Earrings

Ian and I have made a concerted effort to go lights-out at 10pm for the past two weeks.  That was always our goal, but far too many nights were happening where I looked up from Candy Crush (ahem) to realize it was 11:15.  We were making our way back to bed later and later, and by the time we brushed teeth, chatted, and did some work (ahem) on our iPads, it was just too late to guarantee a restful sleep.

I'd had it with my yawn-filled mornings, so we vowed to start making our way back around 9:00/9:15, and now we are a few weeks in to 10pm bedtimes.  What a difference it makes when the alarm goes off in the morning!  To feel actually rested ... ahhh, I missed that feeling.  Many times I'll actually wake up before my alarm goes off, which is how I know I'm getting enough rest.

Reading before bed is so relaxing to me, and I am always looking for new books to capture my interest.  Typically I don't go for chick-lit, so I brushed off this title when I first saw it.  I admit it ... I totally judged the book by the cover.

Little did I know that it wasn't at all what I was expecting!

I received an email Monday that this book was currently on sale for umm, FREE, so I read a bit about it and realized that it was worth a shot.

It's written by Melanie Shankle, blogger behind Big Mama.  And although I'm not a mama myself, I've enjoyed her writing so much already.  She's a darn hoot.  It has been the best way for me to end my day.

I'm not sure when the price will revert to normal, but if you can catch it while it's free, may as well!  With Mothers Day approaching, it will certainly be an insightful and humorous read.

And besides ... who doesn't love sparkly green earrings?

I think the book title has inspired me to do a little ear-bauble shopping.  Uh-oh!

Have you read this book or Melanie's blog?

Spring Cleaning: Jewelry

I must have caught the spring cleaning bug this weekend after my big closet overhaul -- I also went to WORK on our powder room, and now I'm ready to turn my focus to my Etsy shop!

Here are some of my favorites in the shop now:

Fushia and Golden Yellow Necklace

Olive Jade and Turquoise Drops

Okay, that was about as easy as picking a favorite child.

The coupon code will only be active through the end of the day Friday.  I do hope you'll pay the shop a visit and keep me in mind for your spring and summer wardrobe!

Weekend Snapshots

Happy Friday!
.... just kidding.
That would be pretty fabulous, though.

Our key phrase this weekend was "let's play it by ear."  How great is that?!  Sometimes I just love having plans, but I've found that our most relaxing weekends are those where we just pick what we do based on how we feel and what we want.  Game-time decisions.  They are the best.

Friday I busted out my new sunglasses that I got from C. Wonder (these) ... yes, they are a little frou-frou but I'm pretty sure I can't go to Paris without them.

Ian had to work late on Friday night so I got a little treat ready for him upon his arrival home.  Sidenote: nothing is better than hand-stuffed blue cheese olives.  I filled those bad boys UP.

Saturday for us was a really active day ... yardwork, gym, cleaning.  I picked these pretties from our yard and I loved seeing them in our den all weekend.

I also switched out my closet to spring/summer clothes (this idea eludes Ian ... he can fit all of his clothes in one closet.  Me?  I definitely have to rotate it out for the changing seasons).  I have a huge pile of items to purge -- maybe time for a blog sale or Instagram sale?

Saturday evening we headed to one of our favorite areas, Montford, which is essentially a little cut-thru street that has lots of fun bars and restaurants lining it.  We tried out a new Mexican restaurant and they had $4 margaritas for Cinco de Mayo ... yes, please!

Sunday was so lazy due to the dreary weather.  We are huge Mexican fans and certainly didn't mind having it two nights in a row, so last night we made cheesy beef enchiladas with refried black beans and sliced avocado.

The best part of the weekend was getting more plans together for our Europe vacation.  Mom told me recently that it's sort of like planning a wedding all over again, which is completely true.  I'm researching and booking everything ... trains, planes, automobiles, hotels, tours, you name it.  Ian has been a great help but sometimes it's just easier to handle it solo.  Yesterday during some couch time we found ourselves watching National Lampoon's European Vacation and it got us so excited for the trip in such a silly way ... we are giddy with excitement!

Friday

My Walmart Shoes.

So, the story starts like this:

I have recently started taking a new workout class (thanks to Christina for the introduction to Cardio Funk!) and it is a huge class.  HUGE.  Two full basketball courts, filled up completely with cute girls in even cuter workout gear.  And imagine my horror recently when I looked around the room and took a mental inventory to realize that I was the one and ONLY girl in the class not wearing neon shoes.

Nobody tells me these things!

I knew that this problem had to be remedied.  And quick.  I mean, I even saw a grandma with neon tennis shoes.  I'm so behind the times.  How could I let this happen?  And now what was I supposed to do, ditch my semi-new shoes?!

A girlfriend of mine recommended a quick fix -- switching to neon laces.  Easy!  So I hopped over to Walmart (not my favorite place, but it's just so darn convenient) and headed to the shoe aisle to pick up my $2 neon pink laces.

While I was there, my eye landed on these shoes:

Is it just me, or are they kinda cute?
I figured that at $20, it was worth bringing them home.
And I think I might just keep them!

They are obviously a knock off of the $138 metallic Toms wedges, but GOLD, people.  And I'm a sucker for gold shoes.

They are available online here and shipping is just $0.97.  For me, I went down a half size ... I typically wear a 7.5 and the ones I took home are a size 7.

They look really cute with my white jeans, and I think they will look darling with khaki shorts.

So -- girls?  Shoot me straight.  Are they keepers?

(PS: my tennis shoes look sooooo fly with the neon pink laces)

(WAIT. Do people still say "fly"?!)

Thursday

Cinco de Mayo Festivities

Cinco de Mayo
Pin It!

Let's play a game, shall we?

Every time you hear "Cinco de Drinko" between now and this Sunday, you have to take a sip of your margarita.  Which also means that you need to have a margarita in hand at all times.  Not a bad game, if you ask me.

I myself am so excited for Sunday shenanigans with a Mexican twist ... margaritas on the rocks (of course I want a salted rim!), mariachi band music, cheesy enchiladas, guacamole galore, and lots of "¡ole!"-ing.

Charlotte has some fun events going on, including a big Saturday night block party on Montford and a Mexican beer garden event at Pacos Tacos on Sunday.  Oh, and Vida uptown has chihuahua racing ... enough said.

In the perfect world, there will be no no 4am Monday thirstiness, no 10am Monday morning headaches, and I'll be able to sport the cute ensemble above.

dress: Asos ($46, people, $46!)
top bracelet: Charlotte Russe ($6)
middle bracelet: Tory Burch  ($195)
bottom bracelet: Madewell ($10)
gold sandals: Aldo ($50)

Okay, so the dress, both friendship bracelets, and the sandals all combined cost less than the Tory Burch bracelet, but hey -- a girl's gotta have one splurge item, right?!

How will you celebrate Cinco de Mayo?
