Roll Call this Monday is all about favorite Halloween traditions!
As a little girl, our tradition was to come home from trick or treating at night to a dinner of cheese toast with a sausage (L'il Smokies) face. We'd have it with hot chocolate and then spend the rest of the night giving out candy to other trick or treaters that came to our door. Such a simple yet cozy memory.
Guess what Camille is having for dinner tonight! :)
What's your favorite Halloween tradition?
The only Halloween tradition I can even think of is listening to this Monster Mash Mix cassette tape Mom would play in her car all October (and definitely on Halloween). My freshman year of college, I was really homesick so I found a way to make a YouTube channel playlist so I could listen to those songs (in the same progression, since you couldn't ever skip through songs on a tape back in the day). Now we have it on Spotify. Muuuuuch better. Haha!
ReplyDeleteso sweet- i think we are going to sweet potato/black bean chili (orange and black!) for dinner, but i love this post on halloween dinners- http://cupofjo.com/2016/10/halloween-dinner-ideas/

We don't really have an official one but I'm going to keep an eye on these comments and see if I can steal one!!!
ReplyDeleteI grew up starting the night with big pots of soup and chili (take your pick!) with our whole family and some family friends. Then we would go trick-or-treating after eating! And we are doing the exact same thing tonight with my niece and nephew. Can't wait to take our little girl along next year :)
ReplyDeleteEvery year, without fail, I would get sick right before Halloween. A sinus infection/flu/upper respiratory infection. So Halloween was pizza (more for my brother who went Trick or Treating) and going to bed early. As an adult, I'm not a fan of Halloween, so I'm going to have to get creative soon so my son grows up with a fun tradition!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! We would always go to my grandparents and great-grandparents to show off our costumes and we would get a special little present from them. Now, we eat a big bowl of homemade baked potato soup and take the boys trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. When they wake up on Halloween morning, they get a special Halloween-themed present from us, and we watch child-appropriate Halloween movies some during the day. Once the boys go to bed, my husband and I have a glass of wine and watch a scary movie on TV!
ReplyDeleteWe always trick-or-treated with our neighbors and then watched Halloween / "scary" movies while we handed out candy. I think my mom usually ordered a pizza for dinner! Now I make a slow cooker meal and we eat that before heading out. My boys are still little so we're still creating traditions :)
ReplyDeleteWe have pizza and then trick-or-treat with our neighbors.
ReplyDeleteAw I love that! I think my favorite tradition was coming home and dumping all of our candy on the floor. Then we would sort through the "good" and "bad" stuff haha!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a super rural farming community, which translates into no neighbors! So we almost never went trick or treating, but got to get our favorite candy the next day in the 50% sales!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween tradition is eating a Halloween treat while watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown". I love being able to share it with my children now.
ReplyDeleteWe would always visit my grandparents (quite a few hours away!) and trick or treat with my cousins! Aside from Christmas, it was the only time we all got to do something together!
