Tickets sell out really quickly but we jumped on them this year and were so excited to visit this past Saturday.
Camille had an awesome outfit that had to be covered to keep her warm ... it was much chillier than expected. The outfit will make an appearance later this month for sure ;)
We started off by taking a shuttle from Beech Mountain to the entry point of Oz.
There is a Wizard of Oz museum onsite which has lots of movie paraphenalia, Dorothy's outfit from the 1970s theme park, and even some original costumes from the movie!
Dorothy's house is part of the tour and it is quite amazing. You walk through the house, then you "experience" the tornado, and then the back of the house is a mirror image of the front, but it has been hit by the twister. The floors are all slanted and caddywhompus, the pictures are hanging from the walls, and there are items strewn about the floor. Hard to describe, but so fun to walk through.
Auntie Em was in the kitchen and she loved meeting Camille.
Outside of the house we made our way to the Yellow Brick Road where we saw Glinda's bubble and Glinda herself.
I have some great videos from the day but they are not uploading well -- I'll share them later if I can get them to work.
We LOVED our day at Oz and will definitely plan on visiting next year.
How fun! Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies!

My mom probably has every one of those collectibles (minus the original clothing) ... she's WOZ crazed.
ReplyDeleteI thought Dorothy had a orange ribbon in her hair - haha!!!
That is such a cool place! So different. PS I love your lip color that you're wearing, what brand is it?

ReplyDeleteI've wanted to visit this park for years and haven't made it yet. I'm so jealous!
ReplyDeleteThis is actually on my bucket list and I looked at it for this year, but felt Shelby was too young. I think maybe in a couple of years we'll do it!
ReplyDeleteSo my husband's grandfather actually helped open the park & did the music (Loonis McGlohon). Such a great place, and it always makes me sad to not have seen it in its prime! We actually have an original costume or two displayed at his grandfather's cabin on Beech.
ReplyDeleteSo glad y'all got to experience & enjoy. Love the pics!

This is the neatest thing ever!!! The Wizard of Oz is my all time favorite movie...I would have so much fun doing this :)
ReplyDeleteI actually went there when i was a kid in 1972 or so! That is so neat that they are doing that now. I would love to.go back!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why Beech Mtn won't open the park on the weekends in the summer. I'm amazed at all the people there. My cousins took their kids up for it, too. I can't remember if I've ever been or not. I only remember going to Beech Mtn Ski School when I was a kid and it was Oz themed. Looks like you had a great time!
