Roll Call: I Used To Be Cool

I just sat down to my computer and moused over to the navigation bar to type in "pinterest.com"

Instead, my mind wandered and my fingers typed in "pampers.com"

#ahhhhhhhhhhh
I used to be cool.

Recently, we went to Disney on Ice. I parked in a parking deck in uptown Charlotte and was making my way to the elevator, a toddler in a princess dress on my hip and an infant strapped to my chest. Large diaper bag on shoulder, sunglasses falling off of my face. Sweat around my hairline. A group of three college guys passed me and I know they probably didn't even see me -- even though I was an arm's length away. Funny thing is, I used to park in that same parking garage with my girlfriends when we'd hop from bar to bar, tube tops on, sipping martinis (this was the Sex and The City era, if it's not clear) and dancing on the bar tops until the bouncers got on our case. I wanted to shout out after them, "enjoy this time! you'll be me next!"

So, Roll Call, because we haven't done one of these in a long time. What's your name, and you used to be cool how?

  1. Oh man, this speaks to me. Every time I leave the house now, I have to make sure the doors are locked, the dog's water bowl is full, there are diapers in the diaper bag, a bottle is prepared. So much responsibility. It amazes me that I used to walk to happy hour with only my purse and no real plan. If we wanted to go to dinner in the village, we'd just hop on the train without a care in the world and just go. It was a much easier time but I wouldn't trade it.

  2. I'm Emily and I used to think I was cool grocery shopping on a Sunday in my cute workout clothes really trying scope out the cute guys who too were shopping for their Sunday staples.. now I'm pushing the car cart with two boys telling them to keep their hands to themselves while I've got spit up on my shirt and a hot mess of a top knot going on. #momlife

  3. I cashed that cool card in as soon as we purchased the van! Ugh...I'm so ready to get another SUV, but I'm not ready to lose the convenience of sliding van doors & that DVD player! #thestruggleisreal

  4. Lol! I'd say driving a minivan makes me uncool but no. I LOVE my van and am not ashamed. I am pretty lame when it comes to Friday and Saturday nights, though. Give me Dateline and ice cream in bed and I'm one happy gal! ;)

  5. I'm Elizabeth and I am 29, turning 30 in one month. I used to be cool because when I first moved to Nashville my tinder game was super strong and I went out on dates 2 times a week, out with my friends on the weekends and tried to be social. I met my boyfriend about 2 months in and now I can't even stay up past 10:00 on the weekends. We eat too much pizza and watch way too much Netflix but I love it and I don't miss those late nights, expensive bar tabs and terrible hangovers. It sure was fun while it lasted.

  6. Ha! This is my life. A two year old and an almost two month old. I'm super proud of juggling them both and when my hair is freshly washed... #momlifefosho

I used to think I was cool staying out super late, drinking too much and tottering around on stilettos. Now, I've had dual foot surgery and like drinking in my house (just a bit), going to bed early and wearing flat boots. My idea of heaven is a Friday night in, sleeping in with my family then having a family brunch out where no one misbehaves. One can dream!

  8. Love this post! I am Leslie and I never really have been cool, so I guess becoming a mom means I didn't really have to give that up!

  9. I'm Megan and I'm 34. I used to be cool when I would wear sky high heels to work and walk around in them all day/ night. The other day I was going through my shoes and realized I haven't worn any of my heels in years and gave most of them away :(

  10. I don't really think I've ever been COOL, but I definitely had days of tossing back Long Island Iced Teas and wearing huge platform stilettos and too-short skirts. There was literally a week my sophomore year of college that I was intoxicated for pretty much six straight days. That sounds absolutely MISERABLE to me now!!!! WHAT WAS I THINKING?! I spent too many nights letting my bangs graze the toilet water from throwing up in my early twenties. Of course this second pregnancy reminded me of those days with the crippling all-day 24/7 nausea (haha), but I have never been more grateful to be grown up and have a little common sense finally! Wouldn't trade it for the world.

  11. I used to be cool by going out every weekend until the wee hours of the morning. Now, if I make it past 10 pm on a Friday, that's a win lol

  12. Hahahaha. Love this! I'm Lindsay and I used to be cool because our friends would host a MASSIVE Halloween party every year and we'd all dress in our scantily clad costumes and dance and guzzle beer until 3 in the morning. Now we all gather at that same house with our 8 million kids in tow and we sit around and reminisce about how we used to dress in our scantily clad costumes and dance and guzzle beer until 3 in the morning. My how times have changed.

  13. Hahaha this is great! Me and my husband used to stay out until 2am on the weekends in college with a huge group of friends, drinking beer and dancing to old school rap. Now we go to bed on a Friday night at 8:30pm and it's a successful night if I can stay awake long enough to watch one episode of Black List

  14. I used to love spending Sunday afternoons shopping at Target and grabbing everything for the week at the grocery story. Now I would never go on a Sunday evening! Shopping with a baby, I either forget my list or can't find 1/2 the things I need plus it gets super crowded which is such fun with a melting down child. Anytime I go to the store solo is such a treat!

  15. I'm Sam and I'm 32. I used to be cool and go out every weekend to concerts and bars and take spontaneous trips to Las Vegas for the night with the husband and now after buying a house we spend our weekends working on our house and spending money on fruit trees and paint rather than drinks and concerts. Plus I don't go out often at night anymore, because I need to get up early on the weekend and run.

  17. I'm Susan and my Saturdays used to be spent day drinking and Sundays were reserved for recovery. Now the highlight of my Saturdays is a trip to Target (baby in tow) and falling asleep on the couch at 9pm. Cool me is SO rolling her eyes at me.

  18. Laughing so hard because yes, this is me! My name is Brittany, and I used to be cool (or think I was) hitting up party after party in college, having any beverage of choice and waking up the next morning feeling good enough to do it all over again the next night. Ha! Now, my Friday nights consist of cleaning poop out of the bathtub when my 5-month-old decides nature calls and calming my screaming 2.5-year-old bathing with his brother who is freaking out yelling, "He pooped! Mommy! Get me outta here!" I used to be cool.

  19. Oh boy! I'm Haley & 29. I too along with another reader above used to stay out late (close the bars down) with my friends & husband (pre-marriage). Now on Fridays we can't wait to get in by 8:30 and watch endless episodes of Frasier on Netflix.

  20. I was cool when I modeled for a local boating company as a teenager and landed the cover of a magazine ... in a bikini. Umm now I would never think of doing such a thing. Bikini what?! I just handed my husband this particular magazine this weekend and said umm where did this body go?! Oh the joys of having a tiny tot! - Katelyn

  21. My name is Whitney and I used to use beautiful handbags. My Kate Spade bags are mostly tucked away in storage and have been replaced by my Kate Spade diaper bag. One day I'll pull them out again and carry a cute handbag to correspond with the season. For now I'll have the best stocked diaper bag around :)

  22. My name is Kristi and I used to be cool when I would go out with my girlfriends in college - we'd head to the bars around 10:30 pm and spent the night dancing and checking out guys! Now, I can't even stay up past 10:30, let alone leave the house around that time!!

  23. Hi my name is Bekah and I used to be cool zipping around Charlotte in my shiny new scion TC, windows down, sunroof open, blasting top 40 rap songs, and blowing kisses at truck drivers when they would honk at me at stop lights.... Now I drive cautiously around Monroe in my ford Edge with my little one in the back listening to the Dave Ramsey podcast at a reasonable volume as to not wake the babe haha

  24. My name is Beatrice and I use to be cool, walking into the bar. I'd flirt, come and go as I please. I'd be out till 3 am and sleep in late without a care. Now? I get a buzz on 2 glasses of champagne and fight to stay up passed 9 pm. 7:30 comes too fast, and I drag myself out of bed, while my toddler shouts 'mama!' from his room. Hello adulting?!
