Growing up, one of the best parts of the summer was the summer reading program that our library did. My mom raised us to be good little library patrons, and we were allowed to check out as many books as our age. Seven years old meant seven books to take home.
Last night, I was a little sad about the lack of reading I've done lately. Don't get me wrong, I know that I've had a leeeeeeetle bit of a full plate recently between wrangling a toddler, birthing a baby, selling a home and buying a home. But I've missed books.
I've stayed midway through Secret Girl: A Memoir for quite a while now, but I'm enjoying it. I love reading memoirs (another favorite of mine is The Glass Castle).
And last night, I reserved two books on hold from the library: Luckiest Girl Alive (here on Amazon) and The Good Girl (here on Amazon).
I'd love to hear what has made your summer reading list!
Oh, and fun fact? I have my 14-digit library card number memorized :)
I just wrote a post on my summer reads yesterday! I really liked The Good Girl and was meh about Luckiest Girl Alive, but found that it was a quick read.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Pretty and Rich by Rumaan Alam and it's a fascinating story of how friendships grow and change - something I can really relate to in my 30s!
We love the library too! Ours has giant cut outs of Minnie Mouse on the walls of the children section which scores major brownie points with our daughter I just finished The Letter by Kathrine Highes which was Recommended to me by several people and I thought was good but not great. I also read the Astronauts Wives Club which I loved!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see you do a post on adjusting to life with two. If there was anything special you did use it for Camille, or to make life at home those first few weeks run a little smoother.
LOVED The Glass Castle, one of my favorite books of all time!! Another great book club book we read recently was Sarah's Key. I would highly recommend it. Plus its a couple years old so should be super easy to get at the library!
ReplyDeleteLuckiest Girl Alive and The Good Girl are both great. If you end up like The Good Girl you might enjoy Kubica's others. Pretty Baby is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteOur library had a summer program and I used to get *so* excited about it too. Every summer we'd go pick up a big package with the list of books and they had activities to go with it. I would geek out every year over it. I love that you have your card memorized. Library lovers unite!
ReplyDeleteThose are both great books! I have my library card number memorized too. I love checkout out ebooks for free!
ReplyDeleteThis summer I read a few Elin Hildebrand beach reads, The Chaperone which I thought was great, and just recently finished Before the Fall and thought it was pretty good. I checked out The Girls but I'm wimpy and it was too dark for me. Waiting for my new Liane Moriarty to be available- I love her stuff! Oddly enough, my library card number is 7 digits and I also have it memorized... and not either of my kids' socials...
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorites lately are - We Could be Beautiful by Swan Huntley, Most Wanted by Lisa Scottoline, The Wedding Shop by Rachel Hauck and Where the Light Comes In by Kimberly Williams- Paisley. Wedding Shop is Christian Fiction which I did not figure out until half way through. It was still a really good read - I love books that alternate between time periods. I will add every ones suggestions to my library request list too! Thanks April for this great topic! Hope life settles down for you soon.
ReplyDeleteI love to read and have done it very infrequently since having my son. I made it a summer goal to read more...I didn't really like the luckiest girl alive, but it has great reviews. I did, however, love a book recommended on another blog, Cancel the Wedding. It was the best book I read in a long time! Nice writing, sweet and interesting story and some interesting twists! Highly recommend!
ReplyDelete"What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarty was a great beach read! "We Never Asked For Wings" by Vanessa Diffenbaugh was also good!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome you have your library card number memorized! I have been bad at reading this summer too, but am currently reading Present over Perfect. It is good, but I actually hvac enjoyed her other books more.
ReplyDeleteThis summer I read a bunch of light reads. I wanted things that were interesting but didn't require too much thought haha. I read:
ReplyDeleteOne True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Summer land by Elin Hilderbrand
The Weekenders by Mary Kay Andrews
Here's to Us by Elin Hilderbrand
I also just finished Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly. This wasn't a light book but it was really good! I am constantly posting book lists and reviews on my blog if you want to check it out :)
The Secret girl is an interesting Book which is found in the library. I am also a writer and story writing is my daily work. I am also eager to get this book and want to read the tips and writing style of its writer.

Finally, a tip I saw on Pinterest. You know those vacant containers of espresso flavor you simply throw? They make extraordinary bite snares for vehicle trips! Simply strip off the mark and wash completely. This is the tidbit trap I have stuffed for Camille today as we crash into Charlotte to really look at progress on the new home!, designer earrings for women
