Five On Friday: Glimpses Of Our Move

It's time for another edition of Five on Friday and I do hope you'll join along!

Remember, all you have to do is post about five things on your mind, add our logo (found at the bottom of this post), and join the party using the linky tools below. Easy, and a great way to find new blogs and be found. :)

Whew, moving with two little ones is HARD. I was thinking about it this morning ... it is probably good fodder for a blog post. Because I know I'm not the only one to do a move with a toddler and a baby (maybe you even have one coming up) and there are some things I've learned along the way.

Mainly, to keep patient with all of the craziness because there WILL be craziness ... but there WILL be a time that things slow back down.

Camille and Charlotte's bathroom has one of those tubs with a glassed-in top (brass, of course) and pebbled glass. I know it's not updated, but I also don't hate it from the practical side. When Camille wants to shower, it really helps keep all of the water in! And for baths, the back half of the tub is sealed off from splashes to the floor (#glasshalffull). I did do an easy fix: I hung a shower curtain over it! I just used a tension rod and a cute curtain.

I used this tension rod and this shower curtain if you're interested! It completely blocks the brass frame when it's closed.

Lesson learned by me: flat paint near a bathroom sink shows ALL of the water splashes. Don't do it.

Lesson learned by Ian: sheetrock in an attic is very thin and will not support the weight of an athletic-build man. Don't do it.

Most importantly ... having a handyman you know, love, and trust is worth a million dollars.

TGIF y'all, and hope you will join in on Five on Friday this week! Cheers to the weekend!

  1. Oh my goodness, moving is always an adventure to say the least! I have flat paint in one of my bathrooms too and it is terrible!

  2. Love the idea of the shower curtain over the glass! We have a bathroom with a similar closure and I might steal this idea :) - Hannah (www.HannahAtHomeBlog.com)

  3. Oh please share your handyman! We have some work that needs to be done since moving (with 3 kids and preggo in the first trimester - fun times... I needed your mountain house! It was miserable living with the painters and other workers for three weeks). I hope Ian is okay! That picture is crazy! Love the shower curtain - we have the same sliding doors on all our showers. Young House Love did a tutorial to take them down, but I haven't attempted it yet!

  4. WOO thank goodness it was only Ian's foot! Judging by that picture it could have been a heckuva fall :(
Loving your snaps of all of your tweaks and updates too. Camille's sink is so cute!

  5. We made the mistake of also doing flat paint in the bathroom - bad bad idea especially with little ones

  6. We just moved into a new house and the builder-grade flat paint is my worst nightmare! You should see all of the tiny handprints up and down the stairwells! The WORST! :)

  8. Ha ha! Made the same mistake on bathroom paint - do you know what finish works best?

    1. Maggie, My mama always uses semi-gloss in bathrooms and kitchens! Great for wiping up splatters and spills in both rooms without leaving behind all sorts of lines and fingerprints! :)

  9. I still have no clue how you were able to manage to have two babies at home AND move at the same time! Super Mama!!!

PS - thank you for the idea on the shower curtain, I must do this to MA's bathroom because we have the brass + glass too. Cheap little updates make a huge difference! :)

  10. Oh my gosh I fell through our attic sheetrock a few weeks ago! Hubs was less than pleased with me :/ haha!

  11. Lol! We are moving in a few weeks with our baby, so I would love a post! Also, so clever about the shower curtain. I need to think creatively like that because our house definitely has some dated features!

  12. We just moved in July with a 3 year old and a 4 month old. Man, it was hard!! It's taking longer to unpack, settle in and decorate than I'd like, but what do you do? Work like crazy on projects during nap time and after they go to bed - yep! Your home is lovely and I assure it that it'll all come together slowly, but surely.

  13. OH WOW...your poor ceiling :(
Yes, the shower curtain hack is great!!! Did it in my last house (which was new construction and happened to have sliding shower doors is guest bath) I made my shower curtain so I could hang it higher for a more designer look. The one you chose is adorable. ❤️

  14. Oh my goodness! The ceiling. Y'all will definitely have things to look back on and laugh even if you're not laughing now :) And flat paint is my nemesis. Seven years ago, I loved it. But 7 years ago, I had an 8 week old baby. Our whole house is painted in all flat paint. I'm seriously thinking about going with semi-gloss...not even satin. Two boys will do that to you. Greasy hand prints, splattered food, dirty streaks, all.over.the.place.
    Super cute shower curtain!

  15. Sorry to hear about your ceiling, that is so horrible. However, it's really great to have a handyman around. I love that you put a shower curtain up in the girls bathroom, that was brilliant.

  16. Oh no! That must have been scary almost falling through the ceilings. Glad he is okay and y'all have a good handyman around to fix it.

  17. Oh man, all great lessons! And ones I'll be keeping in mind as we move in less than a month with a 2.5 year old and a 2 month old. Oh, and my husband starts a new job next week. And I'm back to work from home. So basically - the very picture of insanity! Tell me your ways!

Looks like the new house is gorgeous, can't wait to see more! :)

  18. Bless! At least you'll have a good story. My Nana and mom STILL talk about when my Grandaddy put his foot through the ceiling (FORTY YEARS AGO! lol). Love that you hung the curtain in front of the enclosed shower/tub. Great easy fix!

  19. We have those sliding doors in our bathroom too and putting a curtain up was one of the first things I did when we moved in. The shower is perfect for giving the dog a bath too because I am able to pull the door shut when he is getting ready to shake.

  20. OMG Dave totally went through our ceiling too! Ugh.

  21. Oh gosh! We moved across the country with a baby (8 months) and a toddler (3 years) last Fall and it was rough! I feel your pain, Momma! Hang in there and enjoy that beautiful house.

Also, if you do ever want to remove the glass slider on the tub, we did it in our old house and it was really easy to do and the caulk just scraped off the tub and tiles. We were left with a couple tiny drill holes in the tile that we just filled in with more caulk and it wasn't noticeable at all. So, if you do change your mind down the road, it was an easy project!

  22. We have remodeled our entire house while living in it & have just a few things left. It's so much harder having a little one or two around. I have a gf who did the same thing with her enclosed shower & it worked great also. Ah! Good to know about the flat paint! & a friend of ours did that at our house - fell through our ceiling! Luckily it was fixable & he wasn't hurt. Still a pain to add one more thing to the list! Lol

  23. We are in the process of moving to! So overwhelming! Love that shower curtain idea! Looks great!

  24. Love the shower curtain! I bought my 4 year old the same parakeet pattern bedding earlier this summer when it was on sale. Her previous bedding was perfectly fine but I couldn't pass up the fun birds;)

  25. Oh no on the ceiling...but I think about when Clark Griswold fell through his on Christmas Vacation & I giggle a lil bit. Hope that it's a quick, easy fix!
