Let's talk baby tubs (I know I've just lost half of you ... I apologize). :)
The crazy thing I remember from being pregnant with Camille is how much time I would find myself devoting to ONE solitary, mundane, silly topic. Like baby tubs. Next thing you know, two hours have gone by, it's wayyy past your bedtime, and you've read just about every single Amazon review for seventeen different brands. You might even be compiling an Excel comparison spreadsheet.

I've found the best thing to do here is just to turn to girlfriends. Here are some tubs I've used or had my eye on for the new baby (and YES, a lot of this collage is blue, we still do not know the gender though of our babe!).
1: Boon Naked Collapsible Tub (on Amazon HERE)
This is the tub I borrowed from a girlfriend for Camille. I liked that it could be collapsed entirely to make a shallower tub, or just collapsed on one end to create a sloped environment. When she was too young to sit up, I used the yellow bath sponge shown above in the tub to keep her in place.

2: Summer Infant Newborn-To-Toddler Tub (on Amazon HERE)
This is a tub that interests me due to the sling it comes with. I definitely want some way for the baby to stay safely warm and submerged when bathing. It also has a little motorized shower feature -- I'm curious about how effective this addition is.

3: Primo EuroBath (on Amazon HERE)
Recommended to me by my friend Beth, it is apparently great at keeping the baby held in place so that they can get clean and play at the same time.

4: 4Moms Infant Tub (on Amazon HERE)
This one is the Mercedes of the group but I'm unsure whether it's worth it to spend that much this time around since the amount of time we'll use it is very limited! I love that it has a built-in water thermometer.

5: Angelcare Bath Support (on Amazon HERE)
This too looks like a great option, easy to clean and a softer way of helping the baby's head to stay lifted above the water while remaining warm. Price point is on target and Prime eligible!

6: Summer Infant Comfy Bath Sponge (on Amazon HERE). I wrote about this amazing (and cheap!) sponge here in this post. No doubt in my mind that I will be purchasing this exact same sponge again for our new baby. It is awesome just placed in the sink when the babies are brand spanking new and really helped me to feel a lot more comfortable bathing little, delicate, newborn Camille.

We used the Puj tub in the sink. We don't have a lot of storage space at all so I was able to hang it on the back of the closet door. She's still in the sink at 7 1/2 months but plan on moving her to the tub now and will lay the Puj in the tub to create a nonslip surface.
ReplyDeleteI had this Munckin one and recommend it to everyone. My MIL bought her own and my SIL is using mine now. I love the fact that your little one sits in water without the chance of slipping in.

We use the Angelcare tub, and loved it. We used it to prop our little guy up next to the sink when we were doing sponge baths the first few days up until he was almost sitting in the tub and just needed some extra support. The only downside is that it does not fold up or store compactly. Love it otherwise!
ReplyDeleteWe have the primo tub and the angel care bath support. I only had the primo with my first child. I started using the angel care with baby 2 but felt she was cold since I didn't have water in the tub. I had planned to possibly put her in the tub with big sister but big sister is just a bit too wild in the tub. We're back to using the primo tub with the sponge in it. It is huge but does the job. I found the angel care at our neighborhood garage sale for $2 so it doesn't bother me that we don't use it anymore! Once little sister is sitting up we have a bath seat for her so she can bathe with big sister safely.

DeleteWe have the Primo tub and have been very happy with it so far (J is 3 months). It defintely helps keep the baby in place and makes for easy washing. It also fits perfectly in our tub so I slide it right up to the top and turn the water on to fill it up.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way about every piece of gear. I do tons of research and its great to see this single gear roundup style post instead of the usual 'what baby likes at 9 months'. We LOVED the Puj for the first 6 months, then switched to the Saftey First modular bath when she was flooding the sink. I never liked the infant insert in the modular bath, because it was too slippery and she would slip down. The larger tub of the modular bath is great for 9+ months when they can really sit up safely and you don't have to fill the entire bathtub to give them plenty of water to bathe in. I wouldn't recommend the Safety 1st modular tub. Trying to decide what to do for #2. Considering AngelCare in the big tub with big sister. I've seen this setup working well for 2 siblings.
ReplyDeleteAs you know- I am all about cheap and simple :) I am totally going to get one of those sponges off of Amazon- I think it will be perfect for those early weeks of bathing- and for $7- you can't beat it!!
ReplyDeleteGood suggestions! We had the blooming bath for C when she was a little babe and though I loved the concept, in practice our sinks were too small to accommodate it - looking for a new option this time around!
ReplyDeleteThat bath sponge looks awesome! We are using one similar to the second option, without the fancy motor. I like that it has the sling, so I don't have to worry and that it will grow with her. The downside is that we are in a one-bedroom and it is bulky! I would have definitely used the bath sponge if I had known about that; I just kept reading about the Puj (which receives mixed reviews and is pricey in my opinion). Bath time was hard for us at the beginning, so I actually find this post super helpful and interesting!
ReplyDeleteHi April! You might totally laugh at this, but we had a tub... Maybe used it twice when first home.... But honestly, I found it most effective and felt safest when I sat in the tub and held them on my lap. My husband would come when we're done & help, take the baby, towel off, diaper, etc. (and then I could shower in peace :) I know it sounds funny, but it has worked well, we could keep them safe, clean and warm. When older and could stand, we take showers usually. The baby plastic tubs just didn't seem as necessary to us! Another 2 cent opinion :)
ReplyDeleteWe have the Angelcare Bath support tub. LOVE it. HOWEVER--our little one wasn't into bathtime as an infant so I used a giant baby sponge she could lay on in our shower. I would sit on the shower and bathe myself and her at the same time (water spray obviously directed away from baby). She loved the hot, steamy shower environment and it saved me time too. The bath support is awesome and it does have a little opening to allow you to attach it to a hook to make for easy drying/removal from the tub. We're fans!
ReplyDeleteWe had the primo euro bath but found it was too big at the very beginning. So we got the fisher price whale of a tub for the first few months and then switched over the the primo euro. That one lasted a very long time with the two ways to sit in it.
ReplyDeleteHi April, I've followed your blog for a while and have never commented so you know I must love this tub if I am now. ;) We LOVED the angel care bath tub. We put it in our kitchen sink for at least 6 months. I never felt like my son (who is now 15 months) was ever going to fall out. He was cradled just right. If we are lucky enough to have another child I think I'll do what others have and use it with our son in the big bath tub. I just put a wet wash cloth over him in the sink to stay warmer and feel secure. It's not the smallest to store but definitely not the largest tub on the market. It dries off really quick! I can't say enough good things about it! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI used the 4Moms tub and really liked it. It fit over our kitchen sink nicely so the first month or so we could do baths at the sink. I felt like there was a lot of support so I felt comfortable doing it from the very beginning with my baby. The built in thermometer was a nice feature, although I found the batteries wore out quickly - not sure why that was as we turned it off in between uses. I also loved the little water reservoir so that I could rinse off soap and shampoo with clean, temperate water. My biggest complaint about it is that I found it difficult to clean. It has a foam piece glued down on it for comfort and I always had a hard time determining whether I had gotten that piece really "clean" after a couple of bathtime accidents happened.

ReplyDeleteLove your blog, my son was born just a few days after Camille. We are still using the primo tub just shy of 21 months (our tub is HUGE so it saves water using the primo.) When he was a newborn we used the sponge with the tub on our kitchen counter so I didn't have to bend down. And it's even made in America!
ReplyDeleteBathing baby was a two person job for the longest time for us. I finally bought the sponge and it helped so much! I'm a little embarrassed to say that we have a handheld shower attachment for our dog that I've been using at baby bath time and it really is nice to have.
ReplyDeleteOk, so I am probably crazy, but we hardly ever used a baby tub with Ella. We have the summer infant one, and I seriously think we used it less than 5 times total. My husband just put her in our big bathtub (holding her the whole time, of course) and she loved that so much more! I'm sure my second child will be totally different though....and I've heard good things about the Puj tub too!
ReplyDeleteWe used the AngelCare bath support with our first son and are planning to use it again for baby boy #2 (due in May). When our first was a super tiny baby, we used the Puj folding bath for sink use, and then moved him to the AngelCare when he was a bit big for sink baths. I liked that it was easy to clean, but that he was also submerged in enough water to keep him warm, but not enough to be near his head. And we used that until he could sit up in the tub!
ReplyDeleteThumbs up on the 4Moms tub. We used it up until my son was a year old. It fits in a sink or in the tub. I loved the little compartment with the clean water as well as the overflow drains. I have recommended to all of my girlfriends and everyone who has bought it, loves it.
ReplyDeleteWe use the 4 moms tub and love it! It fits in our kitchen sink (NYC apartment, space is at a premium!) and our LO is still in it at 4 months, and probably will be for a while. Baby fits nicely, and the temperature gauge is probably my favorite part! My husband was skeptical of it at first, but now loves it, too. So love your blog!

ReplyDeleteI love the Angelcare bath support. Easy to use, easy to clean, and it's not a huge bulky tub that you have to find room to store. Used it with our 2 year old and now we are using it again with our 6 month old!

ReplyDeletePuj Tub, all the way! You an choose from 2 styles based on your sinks. One of which folds well in suitcases (major plus). I can't use mine anymore because mine doesnt fit my sink in my new house so I'll be buying the other style next time around! Also, check out the Puj Towel -- its amazing. You actually wear the towel, and then you pick the baby up, hold him to your chest and then just wrap him. I can't use any other towel.
ReplyDeleteI would not get the Mercedes of baby tubs, simply because you will be counting down the moments you can really bathe them together. As soon as the new arrival is barely sitting, he or she will be in the big tub with his/her sister. I swear, when Deeds hit 6 months I started bathing them together and it was a game changer! My life was soon much better.
ReplyDeleteHi! So I have followed your blog for a while but never commented. I only have two Mom products that I love to brag on and the Angel Care tub is one of them!! We have used it with both of our girls and have zero complaints. We put it right in the big tub and started using it at 2 weeks old with both of them. I love it because it's not slippery and the baby doesn't slide around at all. My oldest used it until 9 months and our youngest is 8 months and still going strong. Best tub ever! (And side note, my sister has #3 the Euro one and it made me very nervous as even my 3 month old kept slipping and sliding down.)

ReplyDeleteHi April! We purchased a tub similar to the Angel Care one, but not that brand. My son hated taking a bath at first and would just scream. I then purchased a bath pillow on Amazon after reading the reviews - Leachco Safer Bather Infant Bath Pad. He LOVES it and it only costs $20. Great for traveling too.
