I told you I'd do NYE in jammies this year, right?! Well, I wasn't kidding. Ian and I parked ourselves on the couch with our newest obsession, Making A Murderer on Netflix, and had a great dinner -- filet and lobster tail, roasted potatoes, bread with roasted garlic spread, and collard greens.
It was Ian's first time having roasted garlic, and he was incredulous that it spread so easily and beautifully on our toasted bread. I chopped off the top of the clove, sat it on a square of tin foil, drizzled well with olive oil, and then wrapped up to bake in the oven for 45 minutes. After cooling, it spreads so easily on bread and is such a tasty accompaniment to beef.
We turned the lights out at 11:45, after a brief discussion of whether we were crazy for not staying up 15 minutes longer to watch the ball drop, but ultimately, sleep won!
The next day was New Years Day and also my 34th birthday. We had an awesome french toast casserole (I will definitely be sharing that recipe soon!) for breakfast and then went out for a great lunch at Paco's Tacos. Later that afternoon we visited some friends at a New Year's drop-in at their home and then returned home for dinner. I made my own collards and black eyed peas this year, and graciously turned the rest of the meal over to my fancy colleague Bojangles. What can I say, I love their fried chicken and biscuits, and I was happy to kick up my feet on my birthday.
Ian and Camille spoiled me with a cheesecake, a card, roses, and a gift certificate for a prenatal massage. It was the exact kind of birthday I love ... relaxed, family-filled, and with REALLY great food.
Saturday we took Camille to the park, made a Home Depot trip, and had takeout pizza for dinner. Sunday my parents came up to visit and take us all out to lunch for my birthday. We went to Sugar Creek Brewing for their excellent paninis and what I hear is fannnnntastic craft beer.
Camille was looking extra adorable in her new kimono sweater (HERE) that I bought her recently. So, so stylish. I wore my new Kendra Scott earrings (HERE) all weekend!
My parents drove up in separate cars so that Dad could return home and Mom could stay the night with us. That was an AWESOME treat because it allowed Ian and me to go to the Panthers game against the Tampa Bay Bucs. We had great seats, 18 rows up from the field near the end zone, and just had a wonderful time together!
Lastly, anyone have any luck at the big Lilly Pulitzer sale today? I ordered two items for myself and am really hoping that they will fit once I can actually try them on this spring. :) Ian gave me a Lilly gift card for Christmas, so it was a great way to spend it!
Cheers to all of you and I hope your 2016 is off to a great start!
Looks like a fab weekend and a great way to kick off a new year AND celebrate a birthday!! Glad it was wonderful for you! You look lovely! xo
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I think I did very well for myself at the Lilly sale, but also bought a dress that I am hoping will fit after I have this baby! And maybe the dress matches the baby dress I also bought :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! It sounds like a great way to ring in the new year. Also, I love your Lilly picks!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great weekend! We did it up for New Years this year but my husband and I have already decided next year staying at home and cooking a nice meal will be our plan. I had no idea you could roast garlic ... I'll be trying asap!
ReplyDeleteBojangles? Seriously my mouth is watering. I miss it so much! :(
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing weekend and New Year's! Seems like everyone is into Making a Murderer - I might have to check that out! Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I feel like I've been hearing about Making a Murderer everywhere - definitely adding to the Netflix queue. I somehow resisted the Lilly sale, though now I'm kicking myself for not giving in a little!
ReplyDeleteOops I definitely missed the Lilly sale... hopefully I'll catch it next time. I love what you ordered from there - such good deals! Happy New Year!
