Since finishing The Girl On The Train, I've been itching to start a new book. I enjoyed that one so much, and I love the feeling of being completely overtaken by the NEED to read on and see how the story ends.

Here are some items currently on my nightstand (The Devil in the White City) or at the tip-top of my Amazon wishlist. I'd love to hear your recommendations as well!

The Devil in the White City (here)
From Amazon: Erik Larson—author of #1 bestseller In the Garden of Beasts—intertwines the true tale of the 1893 World's Fair and the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. Combining meticulous research with nail-biting storytelling, Erik Larson has crafted a narrative with all the wonder of newly discovered history and the thrills of the best fiction.

The Light Between Oceans (here)
From Amazon: The years-long New York Times bestseller soon to be a major motion picture from Spielberg’s Dreamworks that is “irresistible…seductive…with a high concept plot that keeps you riveted from the first page” (O, The Oprah Magazine). After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby. Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

Crazy Rich Asians (here)
From Amazon: When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor. On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

The Book Thief (here)
From Amazon: The extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller that is now a major motion picture, Markus Zusak's unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul. It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement. In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.

If you have plans to read any of these books or have others to recommend, let's hear it!

It's called the nightingale by kristin hannah. i've never cried like i did at the end of that book. it's history, romance, courage, and the strength of 2 sisters during world war 2 in france. a beautiful read i'd recommend over and over! i did like girl on the train, but it's not my favorite =/

  3. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOooooooved THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS. Really beautifully written and a very interesting story. One of the main characters has a Very Big Choice to make at the end and, when I discussed it with a friend who also read it, we totally differed in what we thought the choice should have been. It will certainly be a conversation starter!

  7. I have read All the Light We Cannot See and The Book Thief and both are BEAUTIFULLY written! Of course I think the book was better than the movie but it was still a good movie. I recently finished The Weight of Blood and The Husbands Secret and loved both! I'll have to pick up The Light Between Oceans during my next book club! :)

  11. I absolutely loved The Light Between Oceans and could not put it down. I am glad it will be a movie. I also loved The Book Thief but disturbing, since it covers the holocast period in history. I usually enjoy reading anything about World War 2 but The Book Thief was harder to read than most. It was made into a movie, but I did not see it. Have you read Unbroken?

  14. I highly recommend All The Light We Cannot See. I didn't love The Girl On The Train as much as I wanted/hoped to but ATLWCS is beautifully written and for me one of those books I was sad to finish. I would even go as far as saying it's my favorite book.

  16. Seems like I'm in the minority here, but I did not like The Light Between Oceans. I thought it was kind of boring and also sad if that's even possible?

  17. Loved The Light Between Oceans and All the Light we Cannot See! Also, although it's historical fiction, The Traitor's Wife is fantastic--I didn't want it to end!

  20. I wasn't crazy about Crazy Rich Asians or The Light Between Oceans (for different reasons) but I like the others pictured. All The Light We Cannot See of course won the Pulitzer this week - yay! My favorite book from last year is Euphoria by Lily King.
