It was not a minute earlier than 6:13 this morning, and Ian and I were standing in the kitchen talking about what type of pizza we will order tonight. Some traditions just never die.
Oh! And a movie night, too. I think we are deciding between Out Of The Furnace and Inside Llewyn Davis. Suggestions? I know we'll eventually see both, but which one shall we go with tonight?
Time for Five On Friday, here we go!

I randomly received a call from my Dad on Wednesday saying he would be passing through Charlotte heading home from a business trip and would love to take me out to lunch. Melt my heart, YES! We met at Panera and had such a great lunch. Next time, my treat. :)
PS: That necklace? A new favorite ... details on this beautiful piece soon! Hint, hint -- it came in a new subscription box service that is beyond cool.

My work girlfriend turned me on to these Dasani drops. I am a big water drinker already, but these just really allow me to switch it up and try something new that feels like a treat. Well, at zero calories and zero sugar, it's a guilt-free treat -- and the pink lemonade version is great. She had the pineapple coconut version the other day and that's my next purchase.

I received an email from Ian the other day asking me if I'd be game to go see Ray Lamontagne in Raleigh this summer. YES YES YES. We have been talking for years about how we'd love to see him, and we pounced on pre-sale tickets and scored great ones! Our first dance together as husband and wife was to "You Are The Best Thing" -- which is one of those songs I could listen to sixteen times in a row and never tire of. Not only does it hold great memories, but it's just such a beautiful song.

I've been on a grapefruit kick recently like whoa. Pinterest is now making me want to drizzle the halves with honey and broil them. So -- this will be happening. Thanks, Pinterest! Has anyone tried this?

Lastly, I just have to say that writing this blog is truly a pure joy, and it has put me in contact with some of the nicest, most thoughtful people. One of those very people reached out to me personally yesterday, and I was so touched by her sweet email that I felt convicted to find a way of keeping that "kindness momentum" going.
When I came home from work last night, I located the baby registry online for a former elementary/middle/high school classmate and his wife. Just yesterday they were able to take their baby girl home from the hospital -- she'd arrived about two months premature. I can't even imagine being in that scary moment. I know their story because of Facebook updates, but I've never met her and I haven't spoken to him in 14 years since we graduated high school. He served in our military and was stationed overseas -- a true, selfless sacrifice that I've never had an opportunity to thank him for. SO, I hope they are surprised to get a random gift from their registry for their sweet baby girl in the mail with a card that thanks him for his service to our beautiful country. I'm really giddy for them to receive this, and I have to thank the sweet person who reached out to me yesterday for kickstarting this idea!
I hope you will link up with us today and post about five things going on in your life, too! Just post the logo below to your blog, link to one or all of the hostess blogs, and bam -- that's it!
I drizzle honey and broil my grapefruit often. I also add a little cinnamon to it! It is sooo delicious!!! When I have a sweet tooth I will eat this instead. I also cut up peaches when they are in season, drizzle honey and cinnamon on that and warm up in the microwave. Talk about yummy goodness!
ReplyDeleteLove how you're keeping the kindness going, girlie. Blogging is a true joy of community!! Happy pizza + movie night!! :)

A random act of kindness, Ray Lamontagne in concert, Dad's hanging out, and grapefruits?! WIN for the week, I'd say. The grapefruit broiled recipe is one we have done before when we had lots of harvested grapefruits from family/grandparents in FL. They are delicious this way. You'll love it! Sometimes I put some rosemary in with them to make them even more savory. Rosemary + honey = heavennnn.
ReplyDeleteI might would try the grapefruit...never been a fan, but this looks wonderful!!! Love your blog! Thanks for hosting this link-up. It's so fun to connect with others. I look forward to it every Friday!
ReplyDeletePizza is always good on a friday night! Love your friday five!

What you did for the family was great..BUT..you shouldn't of posted your act of kindness but just did it quietly..this is what your generation is all about..posting posting posting. Now you receive all the compliments how great it was for you to do that...see..it dilutes what you have done. It comes off as .."Hey, look at what I did" and not the family. You should be more humble about it.
ReplyDeletepizza on fridays are always nice and especially easy when you have little ones to feed... we love for friday night pizza delivery and are lucky enough to have a GF pizza delivery right next to us. :) Happy Friday!!

ReplyDeleteI've had better luck torching a grapefruit with brown sugar than I've had broiling it. So yummy!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Just came across it today. I love the song too! I don't think I have ever heard it before!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

I bought Cameron and I tickets to the Ray Lamontagne show here in Charleston in July for his anniversary present! Shhhh he doesn't know it yet. :) So excited!! That was so kind and thoughtful of you to send your classmate and his wife a gift for their new baby. But that's the kind of person you are. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat tip on the Desani water drops! Definitely going to give them a try :) Great post as always :)
