Maternity clothes.
Le sigh.
I do have a little more comfort in today's preggo fashions after visiting home this past Saturday. Mom and I were looking through the closets and she showed me some of her favorite maternity clothes that she saved. There was definitely an emphasis on concealing the belly. Lots of dresses with LOTS of fabric involved. How times have changed! I do love clothes that are forgiving, but I certainly don't mind showing off the bump.
For this weekend's Junior League Holiday Market in Columbia, I wore a new favorite shirt (a Kohl's find -- I'd heard from a coworker that they had a decent maternity line). Sadly, I'm not finding it online anymore but if you want to see if your store has it, it's called the Oh Baby Knot-Front Surplice Top.
It's made of that soft-soft-soft cotton that is really stretchy and I just love the ruching and the wrap-front.
I've held off on other maternity fashions for as long as I can, but with the way baby girl has been growing recently, it's about that time to start adding to the wardrobe.
My gameplan is this: go with neutrals, and accent with fun accessories! Here is a little board I put together to show some styling ideas.
That polka-dot sweater is from Old Navy and sizes are limited online ($32 here) but you may want to check your store. Those jeans I paired it with have been mentioned here a gazillion fourteen times but they are the Old Navy skinnies I just adore (sale, $27 here).
The striped tunic is just such a pretty shape and it's Liz Lange from Target ($25, online only). You know I live in leggings and these are the Oh Baby brand from Kohls ($18 here).
The third outfit will be a chilly weather go-to for me (ooh la la cute booties! $110 here). The jeans and henley are both Old Navy maternity ($25 and $12-17, respectively) and the vest is H&M ($60 here). It's obviously not maternity but it can be worn open and then tied up when the belly fits it again.
With enough fun accessories and great shoes -- maybe it will be less obvious how often I am re-wearing all of the same basic pieces!
I survived winter pregnancy with cardigans! Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of showing off the bump, too! I think it's adorable!
ReplyDeleteI made the BLOG! lol So glad to see you and that belly at the market!!
ReplyDeleteTry Burlington Coat Factory. Ours has a great selection of maternity clothes and great prices! I lucked up and found my favorite jeans for $2! Also, Belk, Target, thrift stores and consignment sales. I have an Instagram shop where I sell my daughters old clothes and my maternity clothes(though I'm still wearing some of them) @fourbirdsshop
ReplyDeleteAlso meant to add that Old Navy's long and lean tanks are GREAT for layering over growing bellies.
ReplyDeleteI love your picks! You are definitely one chic mom to be. :)
ReplyDeleteIs it weird that I'm kind of looking forward to wearing pregnancy clothes when I get pregnant?! I just think pregnant women dress so cute!
ReplyDeleteI am loving that tortoise shell necklace!! Have a great week!!
ReplyDeleteSo helpful! I'm due one month after you and I haven't popped yet, but don't like most maternity I've seen thus far. Thanks for some reasonable fashion inspiration!
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pieces! Ann Taylor Loft has a maternity line which can be pricey, but I got good deals when they would do site wide sales. I thought the clothes fit really well andi wore them so much I got my money's worth.
ReplyDeleteI loved Gap Maternity clothes the best. I liked Old Navy and Target too.
ReplyDeleteI actually loved maternity clothes. I was pregnant in the summer and loved wearing maxi dresses every day! I never really found pants that I loved other than wearing yoga pants (and still do).
ReplyDeleteHave you checked Macy's? They carry Jessica Simpson's line. I got a few things there when I was pregnant. :)
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie, I totally find myself almost purchasing some maternity clothes from Target because they are just so darn cute!
ReplyDeleteI found most of my favorite maternity clothes at Target! And I also bought quite a few tees, dresses and such from GAP. Toward the end though, I pretty much just wore sweats, a tee and an open cardigan!
ReplyDeleteSkinnie jeans and leggings plus GAP tops saved my maternity fashion...luckily, I got bigger during the spring when I could throw on a maxi with a cardigan, if needed. I LOVE that vest - I may have to snag it for my non-maternity wardrobe!! Haha
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the ON skinnies when I was pregnant. Also, the gap cords are amazing. I wore them nearly every day!
ReplyDeletecan you be my personal shopper? My entire maternity wardrobe consists of Old Navy skinnies and black and white long sleeve tops. haha.
ReplyDeleteJust purchased the Target tunic in purple and am going to wait for my next Old Navy coupon to get the polka dot sweater! Great finds.
I need you to do a maternity workout wear board next. ;)
I bought most of my maternity clothes from Gap and I had some splurges from Pea in a Pod- I hope to have more than one baby and I tried to buy classic pieces so I can wear them again! That way I didn't feel so bad spending more $$
ReplyDeleteI lived in leggings in the winter/spring and then maxi dresses in my last 6 weeks.
Super cute looks! Love seeing how you are putting it all together :)
ReplyDeleteI love the look of showing off the bump. Ours has a great selection of maternity clothes and great prices! I lucked up and found my favorite.
