Snapshots From The Weekend

Ah, Monday.  You again.  I miss the weekend already!

Friday started out great with a lunchtime trip to Marshall's where I scored this fabulous bowtie pasta --

I mean, have you ever?!?!  The cuteness factor of this pasta is enough for me to just put it on a mason jar to keep on our countertop forever and ever.  But then I get excited thinking about cooking it for girlfriends with some bright green olives thrown in, and maybe some pink pancetta.  Decisions, decisions!

And is it just me, or have we had some of the prettiest skies in a long time recently?  This is what my drive home looked like on Friday at a stoplight near my house.

But then it started.  The tickle in the throat.  That slight burn which means "April.  You are getting sick."  Whah-oh.

So I did what any responsible adult would do, and I drank Airborne simultaneously with my glass of cabernet.  It was Friday night, after all, and my husband was working late!  He didn't get home until nearly 10-ish so I treated myself to a dinner of French onion soup and fruit.  And really girly TV.  And then I took a long and glorious bath while reading on my Kindle and tweeting with friends.  Can life get better than that?

In the middle of the night I awoke with a horrible sore throat.  It hurt so bad to even swallow.  I managed to get in a little more sleep and then made a good attempt at crossing off #16: Attend a Yoga Class on my 30 Before 30 IN 30 list.  I was all dressed in my yoga gear, mat in hand, out the door, to class on time, prime spot in front of the mirror, and ..... no teacher.  Along with the other yogis, I waited about 15 minutes and then drove home, grabbed my tennis shoes, went BACK to the gym, and just had some treadmill time.  Hey, I really tried!

And I can happily report that I had a massage scheduled later that afternoon, which allows me to cross this off the list: #3: Treat myself to a massage.  It was heavenly.  A full hour-long massage.  And cucumber water.  The best.  I actually forgot about my sore throat for that block of time!

Saturday evening Ian and I went out with friends for sushi and had an excellent time.  I totally crashed right after dinner.  And several times in the middle of that night, I awoke with a crazy bad headache caused by sinus pressure.  The sore throat was on the way out, but the congestion and associated crumminess was making its way in.

So I stayed in bed for a while Saturday morning wrapped up in a quilt and armed with my Kleenex, hot tea, and a super good read.  I'll let you know what I'm reading when I complete it, as that will allow me to cross off another 30 Before 30 In 30 goal.

This is the tea I've been obsessing over.  It's Celestial Seasoning's Candy Cane Lane.  It's a green tea but with a sweet peppermint flavor.  No doubt I'll be stocking up on this before the holidays come to and end and it leaves the shelves.  It's my favorite.

And then I was brought breakfast in bed.  Yep, spoiled rotten.  It was exactly what I needed.  Grapefruit, pineapple, and kiwi.  Ian's the best.

I did manage to join girlfriends for brunch at Pewter Rose (their butterscotch scones lured me out of bed!) and made a late-afternoon trip to Trader Joes.  That place always makes me feel better, I swear it.

Hoping to not be so sniffly and sneezy tomorrow -- it's the pits!

  6. When I don't feel well, I don't leave my house. NOTHING can get me out the door! I'm so impressed that not only did you work out and grocery shop, but that you hung out with friends too -- twice! You are a much stronger sick-o than I ;)
