Updated Bedroom Pics & Lilly P!

One thing I have learned about moving into a new home is that it is a process.

A long, tedious process.  A neverending process.

But it can also be a rewarding process.  Our bedroom is finally starting to come together and I thought I'd show you some pictures to document the progression.

So you may remember that when we closed in late April, our bedroom looked like this:

Dark brown semi-gloss walls = not a great match with our dark wood furniture.

We scheduled painters to come out immediately!

Valspar's Sparkling Lake paint was all our bedroom needed to cheer it up a bit.  I wanted a color that was uplifting but not something that looked like it belonged in a teenager's room.

So now the bed has been accented with pillows (all fabric from Fabric.com) and I've also got a new bedside table where I keep a stack of magazines, my Kindle, a silver pedestal dish that holds jewelry, chapstick, and a bobbypin stash, a framed picture, and the little Anthropologie tray that holds my glasses at night.

(You may remember that Mom & I covered the larger yellow/white pillows above and I used them on the white leather lounge furniture at our wedding.  The other pink/yellow/white fabric was ordered to cover pillows in the den but ended up being more pink and less coral than I expected -- so instead of being in the den, we decided to use it in the bedroom.  I hired my alterations lady to recover an old accent pillow I had with this pretty fabric and also make piping trim for it.)

The framed prints above our bed are our newest aquisition.  We got them last weekend from a store here in Charlotte and they look like old lithographs of Italian countryside abodes.

The alarm clock on Ian's nightstand is from Pottery Barn and the lamp, believe it or not, is a Walmart find!  I bought the base and the shade there and then I added black velvet ribbon to the top and base of the shade.  It's hard to see, but the base is black and pretty ornate with a few touches of gold to give a patina effect.

My little tufted chair here is a great spot to relax and read before bed.  The ottoman in front of it was a TJ Maxx find for only $29.99.  The rhinestone-covered pillow was a gift from Mom from Pier 1.

These lamps flank either side of the mirror on the dresser, and I found them at Homegoods.  I love the modern shape of them and the silver metallic bases.

So there you have it!  As you can see, I am a pretty thrifty shopper for accent pieces in our home -- I love finding great deals at Homegoods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls.  That way, if I decide to totally change up the look, I can keep the nice essentials and just scrap the accent pieces.

It's still not complete, but it's a good start in the right direction.  With a little more art on the walls and maybe even window panels at some point (???) it will be one step closer to complete.  And very soon we hope to add thick crown molding to the room -- we just spoke with a contractor on Sunday about that addition.

And also just a quick reminder that at 11am today, Lilly Pulitzer is on Rue La La!  I didn't think their last Lilly sale was too spectacular, but the sale before that in April was pretty dang fabulous ... I posted here about what I bought from that sale.  So if you haven't joined Rue La La yet, click here for your invitation to join the site and start shopping!

Happy Friday!

  11. Love love love! Great job on everything. Our bedroom has the coolest crown molding treatment. They used thick molding at the top and then dropped down about 6-8 inches and used thinner molding and then painted the molding and the wall in between white to match and it looks super expensive. Everyone that comes over comments on how great it looks and are stunned when I tell them the trick!

  18. I couldn't agree with you more that decorating a house - as fun as it is - is also a pretty grueling process! (They make it look so easy on TV, don't they?)

But I LOVE what you did - it is so bright and cheery and elegent!
