I have a beautiful long wedding dress (and that's all I can describe to you now). It wasn't cheap; in fact, I probably pushed the budget a little on it.
But now, I'm plagued by blogs that have me coveting images such as this one:
The mecca of wedding shoes ... Louboutins. Which also would be coming right out of my own checking account, and this would simply make Ian shudder. I wouldn't have an easy time justifying these over a new piece of furniture. But on the other hand - when else can you splurge on yourself but your wedding day?
So I did what any gal would do, I ordered 3 pairs of Nina shoes from Zappos. I like them all (one pair is similar to the below pair) but I wouldn't say any of them are extraordinarily gorgeous. On the other hand, however, all are around $70-75 ... much more wallet-friendly. And not to sound like a grandmother, but the heels on all 3 pairs are a lot more sensible for a long day and night of standing around and dancing.
Then there's the "neither-here-nor-there" shoes that I am absolutely in love with. I give them this title because they're not $600-700 like Louboutins, but they are $310 from the BHLDN line. Gorgeously stunning, but still tough to justify the spending.
So what did you do? Did you splurge on hot heels or did you go with a more reasonible/sensible pair? Did you regret making either choice, and why?
I wanted red shoes and I got them. Like I told you the other day I spent about $200 on them but I will have them forever and giving that they are red I can wear them again.
ReplyDeleteI would drop a 'G' on wedding shoes. You might take that extra cash you don't spend and purchase new honeymoon clothes.
Hi! I just started following your blog! I got married last March and I definitely went the cheaper route. My dress was long as well, and honestly no one really saw much of my shoes so I'm glad I went with a pair that were fairly comfortable and cheap.

ReplyDeleteI actually went cheap with my shoes.. payless satin ones. Now for the NEXT go round... I will have colored shoes... as well as a black dress.
ReplyDeleteI did not splurge on shoes. In fact, I wore a pair of NineWest gold satin peep toes from a stint as a bridesmaid the year before. I thought if I bought new shoes I'd never wear them after the wedding because they would be too special and it would be a waste of money. My friend bought the blue Manolo Blanik S&City shoes for her wedding and she said they were horribly uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteObviously I'm not married but girl, I say you should splurge. When else would you? And I'm a huge person on comfortable shoes....hate to say it but the more expensive ones are typically more comfortable. If you get a somewhat versatile color pair of Louboutins, I'm sure you'll wear them again. I think it would be super fun for you to go all out but then again, I'm a bad influence! :)
ReplyDeleteHi - I just started reading your blog and love it. Did you know that Nina's online has a design your own shoe section? You can custom color the bottom of the soles as well as design all the other elements of the shoe (including heel height) and I think it's still under $200.
ReplyDeleteUgh this is a toughie girlfriend. I wanted Loubies so bad too butttt at the end of the day it totally wasn't worth it. I went with Nina shoes too. But then those didn't make the cut either! I ended up wearing these old gray shoes I had had for years. My shoes were the least of my worries :)
ReplyDeleteI went with the Nina and but they were they typical ivory bridal looking show and there I will never wear them again. BUT I would say splurge if they are something you will wear over and over again :) Let me know if you need more help justifying...i'm a pro at this game :)
ReplyDeleteI wanted a pair of the Valentino pumps with the huge bows, and I went looking at Off-Broadway for a pair of shoes for my Madre to wear and we ended up finding an exact replica in bright pink for only $39.90! I LOVED them and am SO glad I didn't spend the $600 on the Valentino's!
ReplyDeleteI went pretty sensible. Got shoes I loved from Ann Taylor & waited til they were on sale. I only ended up wearing them for the reception {changed into flip flops for the wedding}. I thought I'd wear the wedding shoes post-wedding, but I rarely have. They really aren't very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I went with a Nina, but it was a bit fancier. I had a short dress, long story, and they were beaded and beautiful. BUT I would say go with the mid-priced pair. You obviously love them and it is important to treat yourself to the details that will put a smile on your face when you see them in the closet years later. I splurged on my invitations and I'm a huge fan of print and design, so it was very important to me and I'm still in love with them. I refuse to throw away the extras that we didn't need. :)
ReplyDeleteI went with an inexpensive pair of peep-toe flats that were very comfortable but nothing special.. I never wore them again so on that note I'm glad I didn't spend a lot.. HOWEVER - in a bunch of pictures you can see my shoes and I cringe a little bit and wish I had worn a pair of rockin' stilettos!
ReplyDeleteI just took the plunge and ordered from Saks - you got it - Monolos - the ones Bella wore in her wedding in Twilight! I just had to have them. I feel sooo guilty right now!!!
