Our Visit to Autumn At Oz

We have skiied Beech Mountain several times, and only last year did we find out about a hidden gem tucked away right under our noses ... a tribute to The Wizard of Oz! Back in the 1970s, a family built a small theme park which closed its doors ten years later. The Oz park then became abandoned (story here) and was only recently revived to be opened one weekend a year for Autumn at Oz.

Tickets sell out really quickly but we jumped on them this year and were so excited to visit this past Saturday.

Camille had an awesome outfit that had to be covered to keep her warm ... it was much chillier than expected. The outfit will make an appearance later this month for sure ;)

We started off by taking a shuttle from Beech Mountain to the entry point of Oz.

  

There is a Wizard of Oz museum onsite which has lots of movie paraphenalia, Dorothy's outfit from the 1970s theme park, and even some original costumes from the movie!

Dorothy's house is part of the tour and it is quite amazing. You walk through the house, then you "experience" the tornado, and then the back of the house is a mirror image of the front, but it has been hit by the twister. The floors are all slanted and caddywhompus, the pictures are hanging from the walls, and there are items strewn about the floor. Hard to describe, but so fun to walk through.

Auntie Em was in the kitchen and she loved meeting Camille.

Outside of the house we made our way to the Yellow Brick Road where we saw Glinda's bubble and Glinda herself.

We LOVED our day at Oz and will definitely plan on visiting next year.
