Pink Lou Lou's Messy Side Bun ... Thingy

I can't believe I'm about to post the pictures in this post that I told Pink Lou Lou I would.

Did you see her post yesterday about how to create "the messy side bun ... thingy" as she called it?

After seeing her cute hair that she wore to her friend's wedding, I was one of the people that emailed her begging for a hair tutorial!  I was so happy to see that she gave the instructions on yesterday's post.  I told her I'd take a stab at it last night and maybe, JUST MAYBE, photograph the sequence.

It's embarrassing ya'll.

My mirror self-portraits are ... awkward.

But without further ado, here we go!

{Disclaimer: I did this right before I headed to the gym, hence the non-traditional get-up.  And as a disclaimer sidenote, I stuck a few extra bobby pins in the bun before leaving, and my hair didn't BUDGE during my hour-long cardio class!}

Here we go.  Before pic.

The essentials: Ulta teasing comb, bobby pins, Tresemme hairspray,
curling iron, ponytail holder

I started by lifting a section of my hair at the crown...

... and then I teased the hell out of it using the hairspray
and teasing comb.

Then I did the little side braid of my bangs and pinned it to the side.
The unsure look on my face is because of that huge teased hump.
Not quite sure about it at this point.

Then I did the side ponytail and left out some sections of hair on the
opposite side.  After this pic was taken, I poufed the crown a little more.

Then I just started randomly pinning the hair around the
rubber band to hide it.  Next time I'll use hot rollers and
hairspray on that ponytail first to give it more body.
Using a curling iron, I curled the side pieces away from
my face.  Sorry for the huge finger in the way, I was
hurrying so I didn't burn my hair off!

Finished view ...

Did I do it right Pink Lou Lou??

I think it's cute ... but my bun is too small.  And maybe my pouf isn't high enough??

The pouf does look pretty good from the top, right?

Or does this look silly on me?!
I can't decide ... PLL, help!

OK maybe I'm really digging it from the side.

And from the back version (in mirror) it's pretty dang cute.
Pink Lou Lou, do I get the seal of approval?
Any tips??

  2. I read both of y'alls blogs {both are fabulous btw} and I myself tried the messy bun look {minus braid} today for work. My husband's opinion was mixed, but all of my female coworkers have complimented me so I think it's a win! I think yours looks great and kudos to you for posting pics :-)

  9. Woohoo!! You did a great job! I saw PLL do it yesterday. I actually have worn my hair a few times like that this spring, minus the curling iron part. Love to wear a braid!
